The meeting was called to consider and act upon a request of Arthur
S. Griffith, DBA Bonzer Builders, Inc. to build a house on the corner
of Ocean Avenue and Union Street with a five (5) foot set back instead
of the fifteen (15) feet as required in the building code.
All property owners within )00 feet of the area under considerat~on
that were present at the hearing, as well as the party requesting the
variance, were given an opportunity to be heard. There were no
communications received in regard to the request.
Mrs. Carter felt since there is a lot of school traffic around this
corner it would make the house too close for the cars to turn.
Mr. Bebbington representing the Union Church also felt that with only
a five foot set back the house would be too close to the street with
so much school traffic.
Mrs. Murton and party representing Mrs. Allen had no objections to the
variance.
Mr. Loveland, member of the board, felt that granting the variance
would be setting a precedence for other builders. ~he school traffic
is getting heavier as Edgewater grows and sidewalks are going to be a
must in the near future and with a house so close to the street there
wouldn"t be enough room on the street right-of-way to build walks.
Mr. Griffith felt if he had to redesign the house F.H.A. might not go
along with the change.
The property owners were dismissed and after a discussion by the Board
they voted to recommend to the City Council that the variance be
denied.
