2024-R-33 - permit fees - hurricane MiltonEMERGENCY RESOLUTION NO.2024-R-33 AN EMERGENCY RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF EDGEWATER, FLORIDA, SUSPENDING CERTAIN LOCAL BUILDING REGULATIONS UNDER EMERGENCY CONDITIONS. WHEREAS, a State of Emergency in the City of Edgewater was proclaimed by GOVERNOR RON MANTIS on OCTOBER 6, 2024 due to HURRICANE MILTON; and WHEREAS, HURRICANE MILTON has caused extensive damage to public and private property within the City of Edgewater; and WHEREAS, the expeditious restoration of property to pre-existing conditions is vital to enable the re-establishment of shelter for residents, businesses and public activities; and WHEREAS, adherence to certain local established building regulations and procedures can delay the process of restoring properties to conditions existing prior to the emergency; and WHEREAS, Chapter 8 of the City of Edgewater Code of Ordinances author_ izes - the suspension of local building regulations during a state of emergency. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL 07 THE .r CITY OF EDGEWATER, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. HURRICANE MILTON has caused damage to numerous properties rendering them unsafe or marginally habitable forcing residents from their residences and business and commercial activities to remain closed. Section 2. The following deferral of certain building regulations, fees and procedures shall remain in effect for sixty (60) days: • Permit fees for hurricane -related work shall be waived for sixty (60) days beginning October 21, 2024; • Tree removal permits for storm damaged tree removal shall be suspended for sixty (60) days beginning October 21, 2024; • Temporary sign permit fees shall be waived and issued for storm related destroyed/damaged or otherwise illegible signs for sixty (60) days beginning October 21, 2024; 2024-R-33 • The City Council shall have the option to extend this Resolution for an additional sixty (60) days if authorized prior to the expiration of this Resolution. Section 3. Contractors and businesses seeking permits for residential and commercial emergency repairs related to HURRICANE MILTON must report to the Development Services/Building Department office (104 North Riverside Drive) to provide their license and proof of insurance to prove they are eligible to perform the work intended. Residents are cautioned to hire Florida licensed contractors only and to be wary of door-to-door solicitors asking for large deposits or who promise to speed up the permit process. Section 4.
