A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
EDGEW A TER, FLORIDA, APPROVING AND
AUTHORIZING ACCEPT ANCE OF THE CITY OF
EDGEW A TER'S DESIGNATED PORTION OF THE
VOL USIA 2020 MITIGATION STRATEGY AND
AUTHORIZING RESEARCH AND PARTICIPATION FOR
AVAILABLE FUNDING OPPORTUNITIES FOR
IMPLEMENT A TION OF THE PROPOSALS DESIGNATED IN
THE MITIGATION STRATEGY; REPEALING
RESOLUTIONS IN CONFLICT HEREWITH AND
EST ABLISHING AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, areas of the City of Edge water are vulnerable to the human and economic costs
of natural, technological and societal disasters; and
WHEREAS, the City Council recognizes the importance of reducing and/or eliminating
those vulnerabilities for the overall good and welfare of the community; and
WHEREAS, the City has been an active participant in V olusia Prepares, the Local
Mitigation Strategy working group which has established a comprehensive, coordinated planning
process involving the county and its municipalities, as well as other public and private sector
organizations to eliminate or decrease these vulnerabilities; and
WHEREAS, City representatives and staff have reviewed the information provided by or
for other participating jurisdictions and organizations, including the projects and programs proposed
for incorporation into the V olusia County Local Mitigation Plan; and
WHEREAS, the proposed projects and programs have been incorporated into the current
edition of the V olusia County Local Mitigation Plan that has been prepared and issued for
consideration and implementation by the communities within V olusia County.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of

Edgewater, Florida:
Section 1. The City Council hereby approves and authorizes acceptance ofthe designated
portion of the V olusia County Local Mitigation Plan as it relates to the City of Edgewater. The City
further accepts and endorses the mitigation goals and objectives established by V olusia Prepares for
the countywide plan, and the anticipated schedule for the next updating of the plan. The City will
further seek to encourage participation from local businesses, industries and community groups in
the updating and expansion of the Plan.
Section 2. The City finds the proposed mitigation projects and programs included in the
plan by other municipalities and organizations are acceptable and that they will not adversely affect
the county or its neighborhoods, and that they do not conflict with or duplicate the mitigation
proposals made by the county itself.
Section 3.
The City Manager or his designee is hereby requested and instructed to pursue
available funding opportunities for implementation of the proposals designated therein, subject to
the approval of the City Council for application of grants or other contracts offered to provide such
funding. Upon the City finding such funding or other resource, the proposals contained in the
applicable section of the Strategy will be implemented.
Section 4.

Monitor wind speed and conditions in the various
quadrants and areas of the county using the 22
county fire stations. During 2004 hurricanes,
were unable to get accurate wind information
from weather services and relied on hand-held
wind speed indicators utilized by four Branch
Directors. Winds speeds in areas of bridges and
stations being monitred by hand-held indicators
placed personnel in potential extreme danger.
