CALL TO ORDER Laura Konters, Chair of the Recreation & Cultural Services Board, called the meeting to order at 5: 45 p. m. 2. ROLL CALL Present 3 - Laura Konters, Glenn Powers and Tiffany Sudakis Excused 1 - Haley Vezza Also Present 1 - Jason O'Keefe 3. APPROVAL OF MINUTES A motion was made by Glenn Powers, second by Tiffany Sudakis, to approve Minutes from the January 15, 2025 Recreation and Cultural Services Board Meeting. The MOTION was APPROVED unanimously. AR-2025-0092 Minutes from the January 15, 2025 meeting of the Recreation & Cultural Services Board. AR-2025-0094 Beautification Award - Board Nominations The Board discussed the Beautification program and some potential nominees. Due to the timing of meetings, they extended the deadline for nominations from May 10 to June 30 and plan to select Beautification award recipients at their July 2 meeting. AR-2025-0122 Historical Preservation Edgewater's history was discussed along with ideas to share that history with the community: • Curate a collection of historical items that could travel to schools or educational events to spark children's interest in local history. • Create a historically educational show for events. • Compile a bullet point chronological list of Edgewater's historically noteworthy events. • Have historical monument areas in our city to notice where particular events happened, such as where Dr. Hawks is buried. • The Board recommended inviting some of'our local historians to the next meeting. 6. PUBLIC COMMENTS - None at this time. 7. DISCUSSION ITEMS The Board discussed CarolAnn Jeronimo's recent resignation. Board member applications will be reviewed at the July meeting to make a recommendation to Council for a new Board member appointment. a. Department Director's Report Parks and Recreation Director, Jason O'Keefe provided the Board with a report on recent EDGEfest events. He spoke about the Princess Ball's attendance, a very successful Easter egg hunt, Earth Days tree giveaway, the Laser Light Show & Band, the School's Out Glow Party & Movie in the Park and the upcoming July 4th Celebration. He also shared that the City hosted the Zerbini Family Circus in Hawks Park in February. Director O'Keefe updated the Board on the Hawks Park Pickleball project where site work has been completed, curbs have been poured for parking and the entrance, and court construction is about to begin. He shared conceptual drawings of the Whaler Way Boat Ramp project, which is currently utilizing grant funds for the engineering and planning phase. Tiffany Evers mentioned the importance of shade on the boat ramp park /playground area. Director O'Keefe also noted that Whistle Stop Park is fully staffed 7 days a week, including nights until 10:30p.m. Parks staff are in their busy Summer mowing mode and are also working on various projects. Completed Parks Maintenance projects include: Building a Gun Range for the Police Department, Animal Shelter expansion and remodeling new Development Services offices. b. Board Reports - None at this time. 8.
