REVIEW OF RECREATION BUDGET
Mr. Mitchell explained that there are three sources of funding for
recreation; private donations, general fund budget (Buildings & Grounds) ,
and Federal Revenue Sharing budget. From the Federal Revenue Sharing
budget, $10,000 has been appropriated by Council for capital expenditures.
The ge1neral fund budget for Buildings and Grounds is approximately $76,000,
but out of this only $15,000 is for maintenance supplies of all areas.
Mr. Avery was asked to prepare an estimate for maintenance of all the
areas so Council can be given an idea of what is needed.
TOUR OF FACILITIES
The following facilities were visited:
City Park and Pier - More concrete is needed at the end of one of the boat
ramps as there is a large drop-off. Extra parking was discussed; it was
suggested that the monkey bars and teeter-totter be moved for a parking
area. The area needs regrading and fertilizing. It was noted that the
lights at the tennis courts can't be reached to change.
Riverside Drive - Two small parcels of land; a possible picnic area.
Menard Beach - This area has a dock, and it was discussed about removing
some of the poisonous bushes. This area needs a site plan.
Indian River Point - Has park benches, is currently mowed and kept clean.
by Buildings and Grounds.
Florida Shores Homeowners Association Park - This is the only recreation
area in Florida Shores. At present there is a clubhouse and a play area
with swings.
Lake and Alice - This a small play area with swings.
Ballfields - There was a discussion on access roads. The proposed soccer
and football field area was noted.
