03-22-1983 Special ~ r o ~ CITY OF EDGEWATER Building Code Board Special Meeting Minutes March 22, 1983 Chairman Austin called the special meeting to order at 8:30 a.m. ln the Community Center. ROLL CALL Members present: Messrs. Austin, Hall, Howard, Cole and Troutner. Also present: Mrs. Nancy Blazi, City Clerk, Charlie Murphy, Building Official, and Joan Taylor, Secretary, and one member of the press. Mr. Austin noted that the special meeting was called for the purpose of review- ing the applications for the Building Official position. All members had received copies of the applications and had reviewed them prior to the meeting. Each application was reviewed and the Board comments are indicated on the worksheet. See copy attached. There were 36 applications received. After going through the applications the Board found six applicants who appeared to meet the qualifications they were looking for. Mr. Austin suggested they pass their recommendations on to Council, after which they could give the City Clerk authorization to contact all six. asked Regarding the salary to offer, Mrs. Blazi/if the $18,000 to $21,000 figure was in line. Mr. Austin believed it was low, considering the responsibilities that go with the job. He suggested contacting the County and a few of the surrounding cities to find out what the area average is. Mr. Murphy said that it looks as though the State is going to pass the compulsory certification of Building Officials; if this happens it will increase the value of the building certificate. Mr. Austin felt that the qualifications for the job would have to be more than average in that the Building Official will have to go over more and more major commercial projects. Mr. Howard said that the City was going to need someone with an overall knowledge of construction. Mrs. Blazi said she would contact Council to arrange a meeting to go over the applications and get together a list of salaries of area building officials. The meeting was adjourned at 10:00 a.m. Minutes submitted by Joan Taylor o (.)
