Fall Baseball Proqram
~ re~ c.Qc\c"'-eS
Mr. Montgomery stated the Fall Baseball Program put on by ~~~~g~
~~~~-~-~~~~~~~~g~ really was a big success. He explained the
program was for instructional purposes, not for recording wins
and losses and kids got the opportunity to play positions they
couldn't play in regular season. Mr. Corder agreed for a first
time program it was run well and should be even better next year.
NEW BUSINESS
Halloween Haunted House Plans
Mr. Corder stated the Haunted House would be on Halloween night,
the 31st of October and possibly on the 30th if enough volunteers
could be found. He said it was a possibility we would have to
charge an admission price this year as it is gett.ing more and
more expensive each year. He noted that other area haunted
houses are all charging a minimum of $1.00 and some are charging
52.00. Mr. Ridgdil! asked if $.50 would be enough per person to
offset the rising costs as people are used to it being free of
charge and may object to it costing a Sl.00. Mr. Corder stated if
he could find a sponsor for the Haunted House then the admission
price would not be necessary, however, sponsors are hard to find.
The Board discussed this extensively and concluded with a motion
by Mr. Lanchoney to charge a minimal amount for admission to the
Haunted House, to be left to the discretion of Mr. Corder. Mr.
Ridgdill seconded the motion and it CARRIED 3-0. Mrs. Gillespie
stated that years ago when the Haunted House was put on by the
Boy Scouts., they contacted candy manufa.cturerel-s and got all
their candy donated free. Mr. Corder said he would check into
this. Mrs. Gillespie also stated that Tony Svboda put on the
Haunted House for eight years and Mr. Corder could contact him
for ideas. Mr. Corder stated he has been trying to locate a
company that has holograms at a reasonable price, but so far has
not been successful. He said we would try to put on a small
party at the Shuffleboard Clubhouse for the smaller children who
would be too little Dr frightened to go through the Haunted
House. He said we would also have the costume contest before the
Haunted House opens, as we have done previously.
at Veterans Park and should be completed ]n a
He noted the two shuffleboard courts at Whistle Stop have been
poured and the fitness trail has been cut. He said the concrete
needs to cure for thirty days on the shuffleboard courts and he
will keep a close eye on the usage once they are fully completed
to see if it would warrant adding two more later. After the
bottom part of the park acreage is cleaned and cleared, the
nature trail can be added.
Mr. Corder stated the Port Authority has approved our plan for a
riverwalk on Riverside Drive from Veterans Park to Sanchez Park
and they will recommend the County Council accept it also. He
noted the walk will be about two and a half miles long and will
have trails that will spur off from the main walk to a couple of
the City's parks and gazebos will be put. in these locations. Mr.
Lanchoney commented on the aesthetic value it will add to this
area and said adding a riverwalk will allow people to congregate
along a scenic route and will be a real plus for the City.
Parks and Recreation Monthly Report
Mr. Corder stated this is the first year for a girls' softball
program and so far the turn out has been pretty good with four
teams. Soccer is starting next week and there are twenty teams
total. He noted he is staying in contact with the County about
the mosquito and encephalitis problem and games have been moved
up to earlier times and if necessary all games will be moved to
Saturdays.
MISCELLANEOUS
Mrs. Gillespie stated there will be a sidewalk on the east side
of Old County Road matching up with one from Edgewater School and
going down to the Park Avenue bike path when it is completed.
The engineeri~g has been completed and is in line. The cost will
be about $16,000.00 and the Big Wheels Bike Path Committee has
put in the first $2,000.00 they have raised. She also stated
petitions were sent to the County and the Park Avenue bike path
has now been moved up one year earlier as a result. Mr. Corder
added that the Department of Transportation ]5 in a pre-design
phase for widening 442 and a bike path will be put in at that
