AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF EDGE -
WATER, FLORIDA, AMENDING ARTICLE I, SECTION 8, SUB-
PARAGRAPH 2 OF THE CHAPTER OF THE CITY OF EDGEWATER,
BEING A PART OF CHAPTER 27532 SECTION 8 SPECIAL ACTS OF
THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF FLORIDA 1951 AND
CHAPTER 29040 SECTION 1 OF THE SPECIAL ACTS OF THE
LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF FLORIDA 1953, PERTAINING TO
THE FIXING OF COMPENSATION FOR THE MEMBERS OF THE
CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF EDGEWATER, FLORIDA;
CONTAINING A REPEALER PROVISION, A SEVERABILITY CLAUSE
AND PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, on January 10, 1977 the City Council of the City
of Edgewater by Ordinance No. 967 and pursuant to Home Rule Power
as set forth in Chapter 166.021, Florida Statutes, amended Arti-
cle I, Section 8, Subparagraph 2, to increase the compensation of
the Mayor and City Council members, and
WHEREAS, at a Special Meeting of the City Council held on
June 6, 1985, it was determined to be in the best interests of
the City of Edgewater, Florida, to provide for an increase in the
compensation to the members of the City Council of the City of
Edgewater, Florida, to be retroactive to June 1, 1985, and
WHEREAS, at a regular meeting of the City Council held on
the 19th day of December, 1988, it was determined to be in the
best interests of the City of Edgewater, to provide for a de-
crease in the compensation to the members of the City Council and
the Mayor of the City of Edgewater, and the City Attorney was
instructed to prepare an Ordinance on the subject.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ENACTED BY THE PEOPLE OF THE CITY OF
EDGEWATER, FLORIDA:
SECTION 1. That Article I, Section 8, Subparagraph 2 of
the Charter of the City of Edgewater, Florida, being a part of
Chapter 27532, Section 8, Special Acts of the Legislature of the
State of Florida 1951 and Chapter 29040, Section 1, of the Spe-
cial Acts of the Legislature of the State of Florida 1953, be and
the same is hereby amended as follows:*
The members of the city council shall receive as
compensation the sum of four theasnnd eight hundred
dollars E$4780e7ee9three thousand six hundred dollars
($3600.00) annually, payable monthly. The Mayor of the
city shall receive as compensation the sum of six
thousand dollars E$6ee9-ee3 four thousand two hundred

dollars ($4200.00) annually, payable monthly. In
add tion to the above, the mayor and the members of the
city council, when authorized by the city council,
shall be compensated for any time spent on behalf of
the City of Edgewater, Florida, attending hearings or
meetings at the rate of twenty dollars ($20.00) per day
for each day, and at the rate of ten dollars ($10.00)
per day for each one-half day.
SECTION 2. That all ordinances or parts of ordinances and
all resolutions in conflict herewith, be and the same are hereby
repealed.
SECTION 3. If any section, part of a section, paragraph,
clause, phrase or word of this ordinance is declared invalid, the
remaining provisions of this Ordinance shall not be affected.
SECTION 4. This Ordinance shall take effect immediately
upon its adoption by the City Council of the City of Edgewater,
Florida, and approval as provided by law.
