CITY OF EDGEWATER
PARKS AND RECREATION BOARD
August 1, 1990 7:00 P.M.

ROLL CALL/CALL TO ORDER
The Chairman~ Harry Montgomery called the August 1~ 1990 meeting
to order at 7:00 P.M. in the Edgewater City Hall.
Members present were: Harry Montgomery~ Lawrence Lanchoney~
Sharon Mooney~ Jeff Ridgdill and Kirk Jones. Also present was
Jack Corder~ Director of Parks and Recreation~ and Charlene
Thomas from the press arrived at 7:15 P.M.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Mr. Lanchoney moved to approve the minutes of the July 11~ 1990
meeting and Mrs. Mooney seconded the motion. Motion CARRIED 5-0.
OLD BUSINESS
There were no Old Business items on the agenda for discussion.
NEW BUSINESS
Fall Little LeaQue Baseball PrOQram
Mr. Montgomery stated he had contacted Ormond Beach to get
information on their fall baseball program. He said it is more
an instructional program that gets the l~ids ready to move up to
the next league. He said the cost is $20.00 and games are played
on Mondays~ Wednesdays and Fridays only during the month of
September. Mr. Montgomery asked Mr. Corder if it were possible
for Edgewater to have a fall program this year and Mr. Corder
said he would check into this. Mr. Jones stated he was working
with others on drawing up an athletic association to help defray
costs for recreation programs. Mr. Corder said this would be a
very good thing and he'd be pleased to see it happen.
Park Update/Parks & Recreation Monthly Report
Mr. Corder stated that worl~ has been done on cleaning up the pond
at Rotary Park and also banking and grading to reduce the slope.
He said work on the fitness trail has begun and the playground
equipment should be in next week. He noted the dedication for
the first phase should be at the end of August. He said the
County is out for bids now on the boat ramp repairs at Kennedy
Park and they will be handling all of it. He further stated that
Whistle Stop Park will have a full basketball court by next week
and the fitness trail is going to be started shortly. He
explained the presentation he had given to the Port Authority on
the proposed riverwalk for Riverside Drive and stated they seemed
very interested in the proposal. ,.1r. Lanchoney asked ,,~hat
material the riverwalk would be constructed out of and Mr. Corder
said it would be mainly asphalt. Mr. Corder said the project
would probably take 1 to 2 years~ with most of the time being
spent on the survey for Riverside Drive.
Impact Fee Report
The Board discussed this monthly report and determined they would
prefer to have it presented on a quarterly basis rather than
monthly. Mr. Lanchoney moved to receive and review this ~eport
on a quarterly basis and Mr. Jones seconded the motion. Motion
CARRIED 5-0.

MISCELLANEOUS
Mr. Jones stated he would be having some Fire Department classes
coming up soon on Wednesday evenings and they would last for 16
weeks which would mean he would miss at least 4 months of
meetings. The Board discussed this and determined Mr. Jones
could pick up his agenda packets and submit to Mr. Corder any
imput he may have on the agenda items in written form and this
...~ay he coul d keep abreast of t~hat ..~as happeni ng. f'1rs. Mooney
also stated she may have some classes coming up as well. The
Board decided if something did come up that would require all of
the Board to be present~ Mr. Montgomery could call a Special
Meeting to be held on a night other than Wednesday.
