UDdate on Bi2 Wheels Bike Path Committee
Mr. Corder updated the members on the progress of the Big Wheels
Bike Path Committee, stating they were ordering t-shirts to sell
and putting donation canisters in local businesses and sending
out letters to sponsors. He noted that the Committee now had 15-
20 volunteers and any of the Board members who were interested in
helping the Committee should oontact Nora Gillespie or Donna
Wagner. Discussion continued on the bike path plans for Roberts
Road, Indian River Boulevard, Park Avenue and Riverside Drive.
Mr. Jones expressed the need for community involvement to make
these bike paths a reality.
NEW BUSINESS
Pro~ams/Activities For Girls
Mr. Jones stated that most of Edgewater's programs are geared
toward boys and we need to start looking into activities and
programs for girls, particularly the age group 7 -12. Mr. Corder
agreed this needs to be done and presently we just don't have the
facilities to accommodate any new programs. He said next year he
hopes to start a girls' softball league and possibly a 5-6 year
old girls' T-Ball league. Programs such as cheerleading, baton
and gymnastics were suggested and Mr. Corder noted these programs
could begin when the new gymnasium/activities center is
completed. Also, the gymnasium will allow for adult and senior
citizen programs as well.
plans For 26 Acres
Mr. Corder stated the School Board has the paperwork for the 26
acres and may be finalized this month and then the engineering,
stonnwater calculations, retention and permitting stages can
begin. He noted the ballfields and gymnasium/activities center
will be the first priority at the 26 acre complex and later plans
include tennis and racquetball courts, pavilions, shuffleboard
and basketball. All of these plans for the 26 acres are
following with the Comprehensive Plan and will be a reality
wi thin the five year time span.

Councilman Hatfield stated he had spoken with New Smyrna Beach
Commissioner Doug Davich. Mr. Davich has been considering the
possibility of New Smyrna Beach and Edgewater joining together to
renovate the old Junior High School into a "Southeast Volusia
Recreation Center". The Board discussed this matter and
determined that if Mr. Davich wanted to approach the Board they
would certainly listen, but felt that our 26 acre complex should
be first priority and it was time that Edgewater had facilities
of their own.
ImPact Fee Monthlv Report
Mr. Corder stated Whistle Stop Park was coming along nicely and
is still under the estimated budget amount for completion.
