NEW BUSINESS
Election of Chairman and Vice-Chairman for 1990
Mr. Jones nominated Harry Montgomery to continue as Chairman.
Mr. Lanchoney seconded and Mr. Montgomery was chosen as Chairman
by acclamation. Mr. Montgomery nominated Kirk Jones as Vice-
Chairman and Mr. Lanchoney seconded the motion. Mr. Jones was
chosen as Vice-Chairman by acclamation.
Upcoming Baseball Season
Mr. Montgomery stated he and Mr. Jones had attended the Baseball
Clinic the previous Saturday, put on by the Edgewater Recreation
Department and Dick Geiger, former Chicago Cubs player. He said
the attendance by local kids was about 100 participating. All in
all he felt it was a huge success and certificates of
appreciation should be sent to those people who helped organize
and donated food or t-shirts for the event. Included in the list
for receiving certificates were; Dick Geiger, Doug Henry, Bobby
Hunter, Jim Wolfer, Coronado Paint Company, Buttleman's Sporting
Goods, and Electronic Awards. Previously the clinic was done by
the Bucky Dent Baseball School and this year was Edgewater's
first year of doing their own clinic and all felt it was just as
successful as previous years and also saved the City a
considerable amount of money.
Update on Parks
Mr. Corder began his update with Rotary Park, noting that the
roof had been put on the restrooms, the swale has been cut for
the retention area, the playground equipment has been picked out
and will need to be put out on bids, and work is going to start
up again on the pavilion. He said Coronado Paint has donated
all the paint and finish for the basketball court there and it
should be completed in a few weeks. At Whistle Stop Park the
biggest ballfield has the sod down and clay on the infield and
the smaller field will be sodded in a few days. He stated his
recommendation on the lights for the fields will go before the
Council at the next regular meeting on the 11.l.th, and we are also
out for bids on the ballfield fencing. New picnic tables have
been ordered for the pavilions and work on the concession stand
will begin soon. He stated the ballfields should be in
operation by April 1st, barring any major complications. He

Update on Parks Continued
added we are still waiting on permits for the dock extension at
Veterans Park, and the boat ramps at Kennedy Park should be
repaired somewhere in the time limit of 3 to ".. months. Mr.
Corder stated the Council has approved the purchase of the 26 +
acres behind the Elementary School for our new proposed
recreation complex which will have a gymnasium/activities center,
".. ballfields, ".. racquetball courts,"" tennis courts, an outside
basketball court, shuffleboard courts, playground equipment, a
fitness trail and a possible swimming pool. Mr. Corder showed
the Board members the sketch of this proposed complex. All agreed
that the gymnasium/activities center is the first priority at
this complex and Mr. Corder asked the Board members to come back
to the next meeting in March with their ideas for fund-raising to
get this project underway. He stated the City already has a
fund-raising project in mind for this complex and it will be a
riverside festival to be held on the Saturday before Memorial
Day. Plans for this festival will include a stage set-up with
bands, an arts & crafts display, food, raft race, fishing derby,
street dance, chowder cook-off and end with a festival of lights
show on the river in the evening. Although the plans are
tentative right now, it will become a reality, with the proceeds
going toward building the new gymnasium/activities center.
Impact Fee Monthlv Report
The secretary reviewed the impact fee report and there were no
questions.
Parks and Recreation Monthlv Report
Mr. Corder briefly reviewed the monthly report as most of the
items were already discussed under the park update. He noted the
department had sponsored a teen dance in the Community Center for
the middle school kids and about 150 kids attended and there will
also be another dance coming up which will be co-sponsored with
the Chemical People. He added the department had purchased a new
72 inch cut Jacobsen lawn mower and trailer which cuts down
considerably on our mowing time.
ADJOURNMENT
There being no further business, Mr. Jones moved to adjourn,
seconded by Mr. Lanchoney. The meeting ended at 7:58 P.M.
