10-04-1989 o o CITY OF EDGEWATER PARKS AND RECREATION BOARD October 4, 1989 7:00 PM City Hall MINUTES ROLL CALL/CALL TO ORDER The October 4, 1989 meeting of the Parks and Recreation Board was called to order by the chairman, Harry Montgomery at 7:10 PM. in the Edgewater City Hall. Members present were: Harry Montgomery, Sharon Mooney and Jeff Ridgdill. Board members Lawrence Lanchoney and Kirk Jones were excused. Also present was Jack Corder/Recreation Director. APPROVAL OF MINUTES Mr. Ridgdill moved to approve the minutes of the August 2, 1989 meeting, the August 19, 1989 Special Meeting minutes, and the September 19, 1989 Special Meeting minutes. Mrs. Mooney seconded the motion and it CARRIED 3-0. OLD BUSINESS There were no Old Business items on the agenda. NEW BUSINESS Update on Parks Mr. Corder briefed the Board members on all of the parks. He began with Whistle Stop Park, noting that the pavilion should be completed in a few weeks. The size is 22 x 70' and will be large enough for two big groups to use the pavilion at the same time. The BBQ pits will be in the center and each group will have access to the pits and still have their own section. Mr. Montgomery asked when the playground equipment was going to be delivered and Mr. Corder replied it would be toward the end of October. He stated that next week the Department would begin staking out the area for the additional ballfields in hopes that they can be completed by the end of March for the upcoming baseball season. Mr. Corder said one of our top priorities was to get Whistle Stop Park completed, noting there is a nature/fitness trail, a full basketball court, and concession stand yet to be completed. Mr. Corder proceeded on to Rotary Park, noting that all the permit work was completed and the Rotary Club would be starting construction soon on the pavilion, restrooms, and full basketball court; which were the three big items they were going to start with. He also noted the Port Authority has approved our request for grant monies to extend the fishing pier at Veterans Park and the plan is to extend the pier another 120'. Mr. Corder stated the Soccer Season was underway with 22 teams this year and about 222 children participating. Halloween Plans Mr. Corder stated this year's Halloween plans would include a Haunted House, Costume Contest, and games. The Costume Contest will begin at 5:30 PM on Halloween night and the Haunted House will be open from 7:00 to 9:30 PM. The Board members agreed that the Haunted House is always a big success and offered their services to help out. Impact Fee Month~Report o Mr. Corder reviewed the impact fee reports from August and September, noting the balance would soon begin depleting when the pavilion was finished at Whistle Stop Park and the playground equipment was delivered. There were no questions on the reports. Parks and Recreation Monthly Report Mr. Corder briefly summed up the August and September reports and there were no questions from the Board members. AD30URNMENT There being no further business, Mr. Ridgdill moved to adjourn, seconded by Mrs. Mooney. The meeting ended at 7:40 PM.
