NEW BUSINESS
Update on Parks
Mr. Corder briefed the Board members on all of the parks. He
began with Whistle Stop Park, noting that the pavilion should be
completed in a few weeks. The size is 22 x 70' and will be large
enough for two big groups to use the pavilion at the same time.
The BBQ pits will be in the center and each group will have
access to the pits and still have their own section. Mr.
Montgomery asked when the playground equipment was going to be
delivered and Mr. Corder replied it would be toward the end of
October. He stated that next week the Department would begin
staking out the area for the additional ballfields in hopes that
they can be completed by the end of March for the upcoming
baseball season. Mr. Corder said one of our top priorities was
to get Whistle Stop Park completed, noting there is a
nature/fitness trail, a full basketball court, and concession
stand yet to be completed.
Mr. Corder proceeded on to Rotary Park, noting that all the
permit work was completed and the Rotary Club would be starting
construction soon on the pavilion, restrooms, and full basketball
court; which were the three big items they were going to start
with. He also noted the Port Authority has approved our request
for grant monies to extend the fishing pier at Veterans Park and
the plan is to extend the pier another 120'.
Mr. Corder stated the Soccer Season was underway with 22 teams
this year and about 222 children participating.
Halloween Plans
Mr. Corder stated this year's Halloween plans would include a
Haunted House, Costume Contest, and games. The Costume Contest
will begin at 5:30 PM on Halloween night and the Haunted House
will be open from 7:00 to 9:30 PM. The Board members agreed that
the Haunted House is always a big success and offered their
services to help out.
