08-19-1989 Special o o o CITY OF EDGEWATER PARKS AND RECREATION BOARD SPECIAL MEETING August 19, 1989 10:00 A.M. MINUTES The Parks and Recreation Board met on Volco Road at 10:00 A.M. for the purpose of inspecting the proposed land site for a possible park purchase. Members present were: Harry Montgomery, Jeff Ridgdill, Kirk Jones and Lawrence Lanchoney. Board member Sharon Mooney was absent. Also present were Jack Corder, Interim Recreation Director/Buildings & Grounds Maintenance Superintendent and John Wells, Realtor for Century 21. Mr. Wells presented each member with a map of the land to help distinguish the border lines of the property. He stated that the aerial photographs of the property do not show it to be wet or swampy and it is similar in elevation to the property in Florida Shores. He said the property is zoned A-3, which is agricultural, and also there are no endangered areas surrounding this land which could cause a future problem with pesticide run off into the river. The price for this 45 acre parcel is listed at $135,000.00, which comes to $3,000.00 per acre and he said there is another 140 acres surrounding this property that is owned by a couple in Coral Gables. He said he has sent a letter to them asking if they would consider selling the 140 acre parcel, as it is not presently on the market, but has not received a response from them yet. The Board felt if both parcels could be acquired, there may be enough acreage to build a golf course on. Even without the extra 140 acres, the Board agreed that 45 acres would be a nice sized parcel of land to hold on to for future development. Mr. Lanchoney noted the only real access to the property was Volco Road and it was questioned as to whether Liza Clinton Road was a County maintained road and Mr. Wells replied it was. Mr. Corder agreed to contact the County and get the information on the easements for roads surrounding this property. Mr. Wells said that with the new elementary school being built on Roberts Road, most of Edgewater's growth would be heading south and this was a good area to be looking for land. The Board agreed to discuss this further at the next regularly scheduled meeting in September and to give this parcel of land very serious consideration as a future park site. There being no further discussion, the meeting ended at 10:50 A.M. Minutes submitted by Barb Kowall
