AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF EDGEWATER,
FLORIDA, INCREASING THE ANNUAL SALARY FOI2
THE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL MEMBERS
PURSUANT TO ARTICLE III (CITY COUNCIL), SECTION
3.05 (COMPENSATION); OF THE CHARTER OF THE CITY
OF EDGEWATER, FLORIDA; PROVIDING FOR
CONFLICTING PROVISIONS, SEVERABILITY AND
APPLICABILITY; PROVIDING FOR CODIFICATION, AN
EFFECTIVE DATE AND FOR ADOPTION.
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Edgewater, Florida, has made the following
determinations:
1. At the general election and referendum held November 3, 2020, the Citizens of the
City of Edgewater voted to amend the City Charter to increase the annual compensation for the
mayor to $9,512.00 and the annual compensation for council members to $7,631.00. This Charter
amendment also limited the council's authority to adjust the annual salaries by ordinance to every
five years. The election results, and thereby the Charter amendments, were accepted and adopted
by Resolution 2020-R-39.
2. With the increase in population and expansion of the City, which has multiplied the
time required for Council members to continue to be effective in their positions, the City Council
wishes to increase the annual compensation of its members by ordinance, as authorized under
Section 3.05 of the Charter.
3. Pursuant to Section 3.05 of the Charter, the ordinance shall not become effective
until the date of commencement of the term of those members of the City Council elected at the
next regular election, provided that such election follows the adoption of the ordinance by at
least six (6) months.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT ENACTED by the City Council of the City of Edgewater,
Florida:

PART A. INCREASING - THE ANNUAL SALARY OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL
MEMBERS PURSUANT TO ARTICLE III (CITY COUNCIL), SECTION 3.05
(COMPENSATION), OF THE CHARTER OF THE CITY OF
EDGEWATER, FLORIDA
Starting on December 7, 2026, Council members shall receive as compensation the sum of
$18,000.00 annually, payable monthly and the mayor shall receive as compensation the sum of
$20,000.00 annually, payable monthly.
PART B. CONFLICTING PROVISIONS
All conflicting ordinances and resolutions, or parts thereof in conflict with this ordinance
are hereby superseded by this ordinance to the extent of such conflict.
PART C. SEVERABILITY AND APPLICABILITY
If any portion of this ordinance is for any reason held or declared to be unconstitutional,
inoperative, or void, such holding shall not affect the remaining portions of this ordinance. If this
ordinance or any provisions thereof shall be held to be inapplicable to any person, property, or
circumstances, such holding shall not affect its applicability to any other person, property or
circumstance.
PART D. CODIFICATION
Provisions of this ordinance shall be incorporated in the Code of Ordinances of the City of
Edgewater, Florida, and the word "ordinance", may be changed to "section", "article", or other
appropriate word, and the sections of this ordinance may be renumbered or re -lettered to
accomplish such intention; provided, however, that Parts B through E shall not be codified.
PART E. EFFECTIVE DATE
This ordinance shall take effect on December 7, 2026, which is the date of commencement of the
terms of the City Council to be elected at the next general election.
