Clerk read cash statement for the period December 1st to December 31st 1947 ,Councilman Hussey moved this be approved,seconded by Vice ~'l.yor Lohman nnd by vote declared CARRI,~~D. Marshall Tho~'l.s reported having seen Mr Armstrong regarding the paintine of signs on the hyway,but considered it wiser to wait until hyway was resurfaced. Council agreed that, that would be the right thing to do. COMMUNI CATIONS A letter from Jones &~Shealy Movies asking for information about tho Town pf Edgewatcr as a possible locationfor a Moving Picture Theater. This was laid oh the table for further consideration. A letter from Donald E. Mills containing an application for the position of Street SuperVisor. A letter from Mr. Henry H. Senders complimenting the CoUncil on the manner of conducting their meetings, also on tho purChase of the 60 acre tract for a dumping ground.He made several other worth while suggestions. RESOLUTION RESOLUTION ORDERING A SPECIAL ELECTION TO BE HELDIN THE TOWN OF EDGEWATER, FWRIDA IN THE YEAR 1947, PRESCRIBING THE TIME AND THE PLACE FOR HOLDING SUCH ELECTION; PRESCRIBING THE RULES BY VffiICH BY WHICH SUCH ELECTION SHALL BE GOVERNED, AND PRESCRIBING THE TIME THE POLES SHALL BEOPENED AND CWSED, AND PROVIDING FOR NOTICES OF SUCH ELECTION. , II ~ v u , J It was proper~y moved by Counci~n Lohmnn,seconded by Council~~n Husse~ that the above and fofegoing Resolutmon be adopted by tho Town Counci~ of the Town of Edgewater, Florida, and be spread u~on . the minutes of this meeting hold in the V.~ I. ORDINANCE NO. 145 AN ORDINANQE AMEIIDING ORDINANCE NO 141 OF THE TOWN OF EDGEVlATER, FLORIDA. The above Ordinanco was r~ad in full and passed by the unanimous vote of the Town Council of the Town of Edg0water, Florida, at a regular meeting on tho 8th day of January, A. D. 1947. Hussey Councilman NEW BUSINESS Asuggestion was made that the Council get in tmuch with the Road Contract~ ors and have them rCmDve the brush and debris asthey go along and not leave it piled high on other people's property, and along the edge of the highway. Vice ~~yor Lo~~n stated that the Council had this .in mind and asked a representative of the Contractors, who was present,to state the intentions of the Company in this matter. He stated that the contract called for the burning of all debris on the right of way, but this being a dirty, smoky business they would like the privilege of using a part of the dumping ground for this purpose. After suggestions and discussions Vice ~~yor Lohman moved, that if the Contractors would, with their bUlldozer,dig a hole on the dumping ground, place all debris therein and cover with earth when finished,also pay the sum of$IOO.OO,to the Town Edgewater, for this privilege , the Town of Edgewater Would grant them the Privilege, second"ed by Councilmn.n Hussey and by vote declared CARRIED. The representative of the Contenctors that he felt that that would be agreeable to his ~ompany,that he would get in touch with ~om and report to the Council immediatly. Applications wore considered for Street Supervisor. Vice ~~yor Lohman thought it wise not to appoint a Street Supervisor until after the Special Election when there would be a full Council. Vice ~~yor Lohman moved that Mr.Ciscoe be hired by the month,at a salary of$IOO.OO a month aeconded by CounciLman Hussey and by vote declared CARRIED. I" C u u J Mr.Michaels Consulting Engineer presented the plans and specificatins of t the now distribution system for tho Town of Edgewuter and explained these in detail. After much discussion Councilmnn HU8sC"y moved that the Town advertise for bids for this system in the Daytona News-~ournal,~ampa MOrnning Tribune and ~acksonville Times-Union and that all bids must be in Office of the Town Clerk on or befo,re 'ff:oo P.M. February 12th, 1947,sec- onded by Vic~-Mayor Lohman and by vote declared CARRIED. Mr Robert Fuller called the Councils attention to the Registration book and asked when the names of persons not legally entitled ot be on the book were stricken fromi.it. Mr Fuller suggested somo nction should be taken in this matter. Vice-~~yor Lohman stated that he thought this could be done only at a specified time previous to the annual election and asked Attorney French to look up the ~~w in this ~~ttcr. Mr. Mills called attention to the fact that the COlillcil promised, almost a year ngo,to remove the toilets from the S.W.clbrner of the Barbecue Stand but to date nothing had been done. Vice-Mayor Lohman explained that it was necessary to have the co-operation of the V.I.A. in this ~~ttor and to date they had been unable to get together. Vice-Mayor Lohrrk~n stated he would see Mr. Wilkinson about this arid see if some action could be taken. Mr.David MCGinnis referred to Mr,Scnders letter and said that he felt that the suggestion contained thcrein,if worked out would be of great benifit to the Town and asked for a more detailed explanation. Mr. Senders he would be glad to answer any questions. In reply to the suggestion contained in this letter,Vic~-Mayor Lohman stated that the electric light problem had been taken care of , the bathing bench we already have and would relnain as is. The repairs to the V.I.A.hall would have to be taken up with the V.I.A.before any thing could be done.Nothing had been done about the publicity(:committee but suggestions are in or~er.After considerable discussion Vice-Mayor Lohrrk~n appointed Mr.Senders,Mr.MCGuinnis and Mr.Gibbs as a committee to formulate plans for n commdttce to promote Edgcwnter. Mr.Cox re~ortQd on the deplorable condition of Riverside Drive. Council~~n Hussey spoke on the use of hand signals when coming to a stop at the traffic light to warn following cars and said he lli~d ne~cr seen one motorist make use of hand signals,hc also stated that while the State Patrol car was parked at the light not one car ran the red light. Councilman Hussey Thought it would be a good idea to paint Police Car on the car of Marshall Thomas MISCELLANEOUS BUSINESS.
