05-18-1976 ~ ~ o o ZONING BOARD MAY 18, 1976 Mr. Mackie called the Zoning Board meeting to order May 18, 1976 at 7:30 P.M. ROLL CALL: Mr. Mackie Mr. Wiggins Mr. Taylor Mrs. Turner Mr. Wolfe Present Present Present Present Absent Mr. Mackie stated that the meeting was open for discussion on anything that pertains to the Sigh Ordinance. Present at the meeting are: Mrs. Mackie, Miss Straub and Mr. Turner Mr. Mackie stated that we have a copy of general outdoor displays and Section 701.00. This was given to us by Mr. Murphy to be reviewed. Mr. Taylor asked if we are working under the Standard Building Code? Mr. Mackie stated that as far as he knew we are. Mr. Murphy entered the meeting at this time and Mr. Mackie told him that we just started and have passed out the copies and the members are looking them over. Mr. Murphy stated that the small copy has been accepted by the City of Edge- water as part of your ordinance. This was accepted in 1973. It is part of the Southern Standard Building C ode. There was a discussion on this. Mr. Murphy had Ordinance 941 and read it. Mr. Taylor stated that he thought we should study what Mr. Murphy has given us from the Southern Standard Building Code. Councilwoman Webber entered the meeting. There were several questions asked by the board members and Mr. Murphy answered the questions. Miss Straub asked Mr. Mackie who was going to enforce this Ordinance? There was also the question that after a house is built and a sign is up, how long does this sign stay up and who is to tell them when to take it down? Mr. Murphy stated that there is no Ordinance against this now. Mr. Taylor asked what else do we need besides Ordinance 701 plus the Southern Standard Building Code? Mr. Mackie stated nothing unless we want to add something to this or striking some of the paragraphs out. Mr. Taylor stated that we must read this Southern Standard Building Code before we can discuss it. There was discussion on putting up storage buildings, fences and swimming pools. There was some discussion on blinking signs. Also there was a question on the sign at Winn Dixie Shopping Center. Mrs. Mackie stated that you could not see the street and that it was a hazard. - ~ o o Mrs. Webber stated that now you can see and she feels that it is not a hazard. She did say that the sign was too big. Mr. Taylor asked if it would be possible for Mr. Murphy to write memo on things he has seen regarding signs? Mr. Murphy stated that he would rather not get involved. His job is to enforce the Zoning Ordinance. It is the Zoning Board's job to make the Ordinance and make it in such a way that he can enforce it. Mr. Murphy suggested that we get a copy of the Daytona Sign Ordinance and use it for a guide line. There was some discussion on the sign permit fees that are enforced in Daytona. Every sign is inspected every year and there is a fee that the owners have to pay on these signs. Mrs. Turner told the board that at the Council meeting last night they turned Mr. Blanken's request over to the City Attorney. Mr. Taylor made a motion to adjourn this meeting so that we may study the Southern Standard C de being seconded by Mrs.Turner. Said motion CARRIED. Meeting adjourned. -2-
