CITY OF EDGEWATER
Board of Governors Meeting Minutes
March 10, 1982
Chairman Wolfe called the meeting to order at 7:37 PM in the conference area
of the Community Center.
ROLL CALL
Members present: Messrs. Wolfe, Gross, Nerber, Hardock, King. Absent:
Mr. McEver. Also present: Mr. Avery, Mrs. Winks
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Moved by Mr. Gross, seconded by Mr. Nerber, and UNANIMOUSLY CARRIED, to
approve the 1/13/82 minutes as submitted.
The little league baseball teams and fields were discussed, including
umpires and insurance. It was suggested that the rescue ambulance be at the
field during the games. The response time of the ambulance is so quick that
it really is not a necessity. The children are required to submit a signed
consent form for medical treatment and they may purchase insurance through
the association or carry their own.
The $87,000 Community Block Grant was discussed. It was heard that part of
this was going to improve Menard Park, and the Board would like to know if
some of this money could be used for children's recreation.
Moved by Mr. Gross, seconded by Mr. Nerber, and UNANIMOUSLY CARRIED, to
send a letter to Council and the City Manager in reference to where t~e
$87,000 is going to be spent and does the Board of Governors have any con-
trol over it.
It was felt that the new soccer and football field would be a good area
for this, as it has been started and is unable to be completed. This should
qualify it as a depressed area.
The Board members felt that there are alot of projects being undertaken in
the City that have not come before the Board of Governors for their approval.
The $10,000 grant for an adult softball field was discussed, noting that
Mr. Mitchell has not pursued this any further. Mr. Wolfe stated that the
City of Oak Hill has received a $45,000 grant from Ta11ahassee for recreation.
It was questioned as to whether Edgewater has applied for such a grant.
The boat registration fee charged by the County was discussed; it was felt
that a part of that fee was supposed to come back to the City. Also dis-
cussed was the $19,000 that the City pays to the County for beach safety and
recreation.
The Board members felt that maybe they were wasting their time as they are
never given any input on projects in the City.
Moved by Mr. King, seconded by Mr. Gross, and UNANIMOUSLY CARRIED, to send
a letter to Council and the City Manager to recommend that they do not
spend any of the $87,000 Community Block Grant on Menard Park without
bringing it before the Board of Governors for their recommendation.
The meeting was adjourned at 8:50 PM.
