people. He asked to find out how would we go about getting
information on using the ball park for this. The City has
quite a few groups that could play and this would be a fun
activity for the young people. This would make a good winter
or spring money-making project.
The Police protection was discussed.
Mrs. Wadsworth will find out what we need to do about getting
permission on using the ball field for this purpose and this
will be brought back up at the next meeting.

October 8, 1980
TO:
Board of Governors
FROM:
Mayor Robert"H. Christy
SUBJECT:
Parks and Recreation Department
It has been brought to. my attention the name of Parks and
Recreation Department is misleading since we do not have
a Recreation Department, as such.
This Department presently is responsible for not only the
maintenance of parks, but also for most city buildings
including the library, City Hall, Community Center, Shuffle-
board court, etc. This inCludes lighting, plumbing, roof
repair, painting and refurbishing.
Therefore you might wish to recommend to the Mayor and City
Council that a more appropriate designation of this department
would be Parks and Maintenance Department.
If you have any questions please feel free to contact me.

MEMO TO: MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL
MEMO FROM: BOARD OF GOVERNORS
SUBJECT: Founders Day 5,000 meter foot race
At a Special Meeting of the Board of Governors held
August 28, 1980. The Board decided to ask the City
Council permission to hold a 5,000 meter foot race.
This race will be held on October 18, 1980. We
would like this to be Edgewater's first Founders
Day race and in hopes of being able to carry it on
year after year.
There will be an, entry fee charged for all persons
wanting to be in the race. This fee will cover
the cost of trophies, flyers, tee shirts etc.
We would like to have any groups in Edgewater to help
with this race. The Library Board has 'already agreed
to help. We would like any suggestions the Council
may have to make this race a success.
The race will start at the Park and Pxer west on
Park AVe. to the light turn south and go down on U.S.l
to Indian River Blvd. East on it to Riverside Dr. and
lIorth back to the Park and Pier. We pIau to get permission
from D.O.T to have one" lane of V.S.l closed to traffic
for the race. The race will start at 9:00 A.M.
Many other Cities have had these races and they have been
very good money making projects.
Sincerely,
c;r ~hJ Z~~_

To: City Council
From: Mr. Joseph McEver
Ref: Resignation Board of Gov.
Dear Sirs,
Due to recent events concerning myself and personal experiences
with the present Council, I feel opinions from Boards as well as non-
board citizens are not considered and is of no value. Therefore I
submit this resignation and feel my time could be spent on more
progressive matters. I hope in the future to regain my Board Position
when the efforts I or anyone else make will show positive results.
Thank You

Footrace and Little League and Membership
your letter regarding a Founders Day 5,000 Meter Foot Race "
waS read to the City Council at their meeting on September 29th."
The Council voted to grant permission to hold this race. In
your letter you mentioned October 18th as the date of the race
and the question has been raised as to whether or not the Board
would be ready by this date, in view of the need to secure
trophies, t-shirts, flyers, etc. Please advise the Council
as to your progress.
The Council also discussed the need to establish little league
te~ in the City of Edgewater. They are most anxious to have
the Board make this a priority project. The Council realizes
the Board would need to enlist the aide of parents, school
authorities and local businessmen to create the necessary volun-
teer group and sponsors for this to be a Success. The ballpark
is nearing completion and represents .the expenditure of a large
sum of money to the City. It would be beneficial for all the
local residents to utilize the facility. The Board should
also consider attracting the local mens and womens softball teams
to the area and any other events that might wish to use the
facilities. .
The Board of Governors is presently operating without a.full
membership. Any recommendations you might have of persons.
interested in serving on this Board should be sent to the Council.
Sincerely,
