PARKS AND RECREATION BOARD
October 18, 1986 3:00 p.m.
'IDUR OF UMBRELIA TREE AND MENARD-MAY PARKS
The members of the Parks and Recreation Board, accompanied by the secretary of
the Board, met at the Comnunity Center on Saturday, October 18, 1986 at 3:00 p.m.
and traveled by van for a tour of Umrella Tree and Menard-May Parks. Members
present were: Harry lflOntgomery, Chainnan, Jeff Ridgdill, Sue Pezanawski and
Dr. Bazin. Kirk Jones was excused. Mr. MontgOITEry gave each member a catalogue
containing types of equipment that could be placed in recreation parks, and a
discussion followed as to their choices. The secretary gave the members a copy
of Mr. Sid Corhern I s (Architect) drawings and was very helpful in deciding the
areas to be used for park benches, a picnic area and ball courts. The Board
stressed the biggest problem may be digging a good foundation for the basketball
court.
'Ihe safety of the equipment to be selected was discussed and a favorite seemed
to be a swinging bridge/slide canbination from the 1986 "Miracle Book", page 27,
along with various "spring animals" from pages 66, end 67 of the "Game Time" 1986
catalogue. Mrs. Pezanowski also recorrmended a canvas type swing seat as being
less dangerous. The Board again expressed their agreement with Mr. Corhern I s
drawings.
The Board then traveled to Menard-May Park and all were in agreement this Park
is a good family type Park, and parts of the playground area to be developed
should be fenced in because of the water hazard. The Board also agreed the tide
seems to play an irrportant part in Menard-May Park and the small area vail able
not troubled by the tide will be used for playground equipnent, the area being
on the westerly end of the Park. After viewing the grills at Menard-May Park,
the Board suggested a few grills could be placed at Umbrella Tree Park.
The Chainnan recorrmended the Members study the catalogues at home and bring
their choices and ideas to the next meeting in November.
Dr. Bazin then rroved the tour be concluded, seconded by Mr. Ridgdill. The
tour concluded at 3: 58 p.m.
