CITY OF EDGEWATER
Parks and Recreation Board
January 28, 1985, 7:00 p.m.
Minutes
Chairman Jones called the special meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. in
the Council Chambers of City Hall.
Members present: Messrs. Jones, Sheridan, Montgomery and Mrs. Begel.
Also present: Mrs. Taylor, Secretary.
NEW BUSINESS
Mr. Jones explained that the special meeting was called to review
the applications received from interested citizens for Board
appointments. He noted that there are three applications, i.e.
Barbara Curry, Vincent P. Azzarello, Jr. and Bonnie Gilchrist,
and asked the members if they wished to discuss the applicants.
Mr. Sheridan pointed out that it is important to get someone on
the Board who has foresight, noting that in the past two years
the rate of growth in Edgewater has been 13-1/2 percent, so the
Board will have to plan for the future. He said that in his opinion
only one of the applicants has her sights on the future.
Mr. Jones was pleased to have the three people showing an interest
in being on the Board. Mr. Montgomery agreed that all of the
applicants were good, but he favored another woman on the Board.
Mrs. Begel asked if anyone knew any of the applicants and they
agreed that they did not.
The members reviewed each resume carefully and after taking a
secret vote it was determined that the majority of the members had
voted for Bonnie Gilchrist. Mr. Sheridan asked how they would
notify her and Mrs. Begel said that the Board was just making a
recommendation to the Council, and they would notify her. Mr.
Sheridan said he felt sure that if the Board made a recommendation
the Council would go along with it. He said that if they made a
recommendation and the Council did not honor it, then the Board
is just "spinning its wheels", and the Board is doing no good at
all.
Mr. Montgomery moved for adjournment and the motion was seconded by
Mrs. Begel.
The meeting was adjourned at 7:35 p.m.
