Mr. Richards seconded the motion, which CARRIED 3-0. APPROVAL OF BY-LAWS A motion was made by Mr. Richards to approve the By-Laws as prepared. Mr. Griesse seconded the motion, which CARRIED 3-0. OLD BUSINESS Mr. Richards asked if Mrs. Thomas had attended the Grants Workshop in Orlando on September 27. The secretary advised that Mrs. Thomas had planned to go but on the way to the workshop her car developed trouble and she was unable to attend. Mr. Wolfe said he would like to know what grants are available to the City. The members also briefly discussed the status of the Menard-May Park project. Mr. Griesse mentioned that the soccer was going great, but some of the parents were upset that they were only playing six games. He said the concession stand is making money and is paying for itself, and Dennis Norman has done a fine job. Mr. Wolfe suggested having Mr. Norman get in touch with him and they could schedule a "round-robin" at the end of the year, which would give them eight games. Mr. Wolfe said the football was going fine. Mr. Wolfe said he had been to three meetings in Daytona for recreation, with the YMCA and th e County. NEW BUSINESS Shuffleboard Club Review Mr. Ted Buehl, President of the Shuffleboard Club, spoke to the members, giving a history of the Club. Mr. Buehl explained that Carl Shell was the "sparkplug" of the organization. They organized 23 years ago in March. He said that there was no lease with the City and was apparently just a gentleman's agreement at that time. Mr. Buehl said that he learned when he became president of the club that the building was built on City property. There were 108 members at the close of last year's season. The dues are $12.00 a month. He commented that they have had good relations with the City. There are two minor things he wished to bring up - they do their own janitor work, but did not want to clean up after other organizations who use the building. He was in favor of a lease with the City. Mr. Wolfe said he was sure there is a blanket insurance policy for City property, but he was not certain about the building and the inventory. He suggested an agreement that they have the right to use and maintain the courts and if there are any large items, such as the building or lights, the City would have to maintain that. Mr. Buehl explained that Mrs. Wadsworth has a list of the activities which take place at the clubhouse. He was in favor of putting the building to full use. Mr. Buehl assured the members that anyone in the City is permitted to use the courts if they are not being used by the Club. Mr. Wolfe recommended that the City Clerk draw up an agreement with the Shuffle- board Club, so that the insurance covers the parties while they are using the facilities. Mr. Buehl said they would feel more at ease with a lease. ~. u Q Mr. Buehl remarked that their biggest problem over the years with the City has been a lack of communication. He also stated that they have had very few problems with vandalism or damage to the buildings; the young people are good down here. MISCELLANEOUS Mr. Griesse reported that the fence at the racket ball court has become ragged and hazardous. He also remarked that there is trash all along the fence, and the tennis courts need to be vacuumed every so often. The secretary was asked to pass the word along to whomever is in charge of this area. Mr. Griesse also suggested the City building two additional handball courts. Mr. Wolfe said the budget may be ample, if there is money left from the building at the ballpark, to build additional courts. The members briefly discussed the plans for the ballpark. The meeting was adjourned at 8:15 p.m. Minutes submitted by Joan Taylor Parks and Recreation Board Regular Meeting, 10/12/83 - 2 -
