Special Meeting Minutes
Mrs. Thomas, Vice Chairman, called the special meeting to order at 7:10 p.m.
in the conference area of the Community Center.
ROLL CALL
Members present: Mr. Jones, Mr. Griesse and Mrs. Thomas. Excused: Mr.
Wolfe and Mr. Richards. Also present: Mrs. Taylor, Secretary.
The members briefly discussed whether a member should be marked absent or
excused from the meeting if they had to work, and could not te present. They
agreed that in that case a member should be marked excused. Mrs. Thomas asked
that the records show that Mr. Jones was excused at the August 10 meeting,
rather than absent, as the minutes show.
Mrs. Thomas explained that this special meeting was called to decide on the
Christmas decorations. These would be pole lights. After reviewing the
catalog, they decided upon tree type ornaments, with lights, at a cost of
approximately $258.25 each, which includes the pole trim. The members said
that if it was necessary for someone to look at the ornaments before ordering
them, someone from the Board would be willing to go to Ocalo to do this.
Mr. Jones made a motion to recommend that Council purchase ten tree-type
pole ornaments at a cost of approximately $258.25 each. The motion was
seconded by Mr. Griesse and CARRIED 3-0.
Mr. Griesse made a motion that the present lights be taken down, looked over
to see how many new lights will be needed and to order the lights needed at
the same time we are ordering the tree ornaments. Mr. Jones seconded the
motion, which CARRIED 3-0.
Mrs. Thomas noted that the budget provided for the rental of a bucket truck,
and she had talked to Councilwoman Bennington, who had advised that they
could rent a tree-service truck, which would be cheaper.
The members asked the secretary to send a letter to Council recommending
that a live tree be purchased for in front of City Hall, after prices are
received.
There was discussion of who would take down the old lights. They believed
that the City crews could do the work if they could rent the tree-service
truck. If they cannot, they may have to get the Florida Power and Light
Company to do it. Mr. Jones felt that it would be better to have the Florida
Power and Light Company do the work, as it was difficult for a worker who was
unfamiliar with a bucket truck to do the work.
Mrs. Thomas mentioned that she was going to Orlando the next day to attend
the D.N.R. Recreation Department workshop on preparing grants.
Mrs. Thomas announced that there was a Special Council meeting on Wednesday
at 10 a.m. to discuss the job description for the Parks and Recreation
Director.
The meeting was adjourned at 7:40 p.m.
