Parks and Recreation Board Regular Meeting
February 9, 1983, 8:50 p.m.

This meeting followed a City Council/Parks and Recreation Board Workshop.

Chairman Wyatt called the regular meeting to order at 8:50 p.m. ln the
conference area of the Community Center.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Motion was made by Mr. Wolfe and seconded by Mr. Bidault to approve the
minutes of the January 18th Special Meeting. The motion CARRIED 4-0.
Mr. Avery reported on the Port Authority grant for City Park and Pier,
noting that the funds corne in September 1, 1984, but the work will probably
start 90 days before that. The grant for '83-84 is $33,750; 84-85 is $12,000;
85-86 is $20,000. Regarding the application for a Department of Natural
Resources grant, Mr. Avery advised that the city lacked the D.E.R. permits
and a State appraisal of Menard-May Park. He is presently undertaking to
obtain these and the application will be resubmitted.
NEW BUSINESS
Dedication of the Jim Hogan Recreational Park, scheduled for March 19.
Mr. Bidault asked who was setting up the Faculty/Student Baseball game.
Mr. Avery is handling that, and advised that Ann Thomas said she would
post a list for the children to sign if they wished to play softball.
Referring to the exhibition game, Mr. Bidault suggested using other teams
than his and Mr. Wyatt's, as they were both members of the Board. Mr.
Wolfe agreed to make the decision as to which teams will play.
Mrs. Taylor said she had contacted the ABWA Clowns and they have agreed
to be there.
Mr. Avery advised that there would be two booths set up - a goldfish booth
and a cotton candy booth. A percentage will go to the baseball program. ^
He brought out that the 19th was also cannister day for the baseball pro-
gram. This will run from 9 a.m. until noon.
Mr. Wolfe suggested that all of the Edgewater Elementary School alumni be
invited - these would be children now at the Junior and Senior Highschools.
Discussion of having sixth grade children do posters announcing the event,
was had. Mr. Wolfe said he could provide the poster material; Mr. Wyatt
said he would talk to the teachers about it.
Mr. Bidault agreed to take care of the radio ads, and Mr. Wyatt offered to
contact Fat Bob's Barbeque to do the food.
Mr. Vic Vandergrifft, Civil Defense Director, asked if the Board had ever
considered a fund-raising circus. He recommended this as a good way to
raise funds. The members advised that any such affair would have to be
through the Edgewater Athletic Association. Mr. Vandergrifft said that
the circus had their own insurance, and putting on the circus would be
done at no cost to the City.
Kirk Jones agreed to look into getting a P.A. system.
Mr. Avery said his people will take care of getting the tables and chairs
from the Community Center to the park.
