INDUSTRIAL DEVELOPMENT BOARD
REGULAR MEETING
THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 6, 1990
7:00 P.M.

Chairman Joe Martin called to order a regular meeting of the
Industrial Development Board at 7:00 p.m., Thursday, September 6,
1990, in the conference room of City Hall.
ROLL CALL:
Members present were Mr. Koch, Mr. Martin, Mr. Baldwin, Mr.
Hanson, Ms. Rymsza, and Mr. Richards. Also present were Helen
Brewer of Brewer Printing, Mr. McDermott of the Volusia County
Business Development Corporation (VCBDC), who arrived at
approximately 7:35 p.m., and Beverly Kinney, Secretary.

OLD BUSINESS:
Brochure: Discussion with Local Printers: Mr. Martin introduced

did recommend a linen or heavy stock type paper. Ms. Brewer
stated that recycled paper is approximately ten to fifteen
percent (10%-15%) more expensive, but some firms choose to use
it because it shows a concern and interest for the environment.
The members discussed the types of paper, and agreed on recycled
paper.
Ms. Brewer stated the initial cost of printing the brochure will
be one third (1/3) each for set-up, press time, and paper
(approximately $300.00 each).
The members discussed how they would obtain photographs for use
in the brochure, and agreed to contact the various businesses and
schools to be depicted in the brochure to see if they had any
promotional photos, and if not, the' members agreed to ask
permission to take photographs for the brochure. There was also
discussion as to who could take the photographs.
Mr. Martin stated that the fiscal year was coming to a close, and
the Board needed to commit funds prior to October 1. The members
agreed to use Brewer Printing, as they were the only company to
respond to the Board's invitation.
Mr. Richards moved to have Joe Martin and any other Board member
(Jim Baldwin volunteered) to compl~te the necessary agreement
with Brewer Printing to do the brochure. There was some
discussion regarding the upcoming issue of Business Week that
would be devoted to industry. Mr. Martin stated the issue would
be released on September 17th (the first day of Industrial
Appreciation Week). The Motion Passed Unanimously. ~~ S~~

Mr. McDermott of the VCBDC suggested printing a minimum of one
thousand (1,000) copies of the brochure. The Board members asked
Ms. Brewer to figure the cost of printing one thousand (1,000),
two thousand (2,000), and three thousand (3,000) copies of the
brochure. Mr. Richards suggested a "menu" of types and colors of
recycled paper. Ms. Brewer stated the ink color to be used would
depend on the color of the paper selected. she stated she could
have cost estimates by the 10th of September.
Mr. McDermott stated his staff was available to review and make
recommendations to the Board regarding the brochure.
Eaqle's Nest Update: Mr. Martin stated he had sent a letter to
Mr. Don Woods of the Florida Game and Fresh Water Fish Commission
along with an aerial map of the PID. He stated the cost of the
photo was $135.00 which was charged to the Board's budget. Mr.
Martin stated he had not received a written response as of yet,
but Mr. Woods had informed the Planning and Zoning Department
that at this time the Commission is restricting construction at
a one thousand two hundred feet (1,200') to a two thousand foot
(2,000') height restriction of three (3) stories, with no
construction during the breeding/nesting season, and four
hundred feet (400') in height for one (1) mile.
DISCUSSION ITEMS:
Chairman's Reports: Mr. Martin stated that the City Manager is
looking for volunteers to help cook, serve, and clean at the
Industrial Appreciation Breakfast scheduled for Tuesday,
September 18th, beginning at 6:00 a.m., in the Community Center.
Mr. Richards, Mr. Hanson, Ms. Rymsza, and Mr. Koch volunteered.
Mr. Martin and Mr. Baldwin stated they would participate if they
could. Mr. McDermott stated that the VCBDC was showcasing the
new Chamber of Commerce office located in Edgewater at the
breakfast. He added that a breakfast had been chosen, because it
is easier for business people to attend an early morning function
rather than at lunch or in the evening.
Mr. McDermott stated he had been elected to the VCBDC in July.
He added that he wants to keep his assigned area abreast of what
the VCBDC is doing by providing monthly reports. Mr. McDermott
stated that the VCBDC is currently working with a company from
Connecticut that makes electronic switches, and are interested in
coming to Florida (Sarasota/Ormond Beach/Edgewater). He added,
that at this point, the company is looking at Edgewater and
Sarasota.
Mr. Koch stated he would not be able to attend the October
meeting.
