01-22-1990 Special o o O~~ CITY OF EDGEWATER INDUSTRIAL DEVELOPMENT BOARD SPECIAL MEETING MONDAY, JANUARY 21, 1990 7:00 P.M. CONFERENCE ROOM, CITY HALL Chairman Joe Martin called to order a special meeting of the Industrial Development Board at 7:00 p.m., Monday, January 21, 1990, in the conference room of City Hall to discuss the Young Professionals in Economic Development Internship Program. ROLL CALL: Members present were Mr. McClain, Mr. Martin, Mr. Baldwin, Mr. Hanson, Ms. Rymsza, and Mr. Richards. Mr. Boyce was excused. Also present was Beverly Kinney, Secretary. Mr. Martin noted that the City would have to provide $150.00 fee towards training in Tallahassee prior to the graduate student beginning work. The City would also have to provide housing and workspace for the student for twelve (12) weeks. He added that the Board had a $1,000.00 budget, but some of the money needed to be set aside for Industrial Appreciation Week. Mr. Martin believed the student could put together a document regarding Industry in the City (a development profile), and a brochure which could be distributed to anyone interested. Mr. Martin informed the members there was a matching grant available later in the year which would help defray the costs of publication of such a document and brochure. The deadline date for application submission (February 1, 1990) in order to be considered for acceptance in the program was discussed by the members. It was noted that Mark P. Ms. Rymsza offered to bring the problem up at the next Board of Realtor's meeting to see if housing could be found at a nominal cost to the City. The members also discussed having the News and Observer and the News Journal run a story regarding the internship program and requesting temporary housing to be donated by someone in the community. The amount of money to be requested from the City Council was discussed. The members agreed a total of $3,000.00 should cover any costs incurred for the twelve (12) week program. The members also agreed they could spend $800.00 of their own budget, and would request $2,200.00 from the Council. Mr. Hanson and Mr. Baldwin agreed to the amendment. Motion Carried 6-0. There being no further business to come before the Board, Mr. Richards moved to adjourn, seconded by Mr. Hanson.
