DUSTRIAL DEVELOPMENT BOA~
SPECIAL MEETING
TUESDAY, JUNE 13, 1989
7:00 P.M.
EDGEWATER LIBRARY
Chairman Richards called to order a special meeting of the
Industrial Development Board at 7:40 p.m., Tuesday, June 13,
1989, at the Edgewater Library to discuss a proposed aircraft
manufacturing plant and the Planned Industrial Development zone.
ROLL CALL: Members present were Mr. McClain, Mr. Boyce, Mr.
Baldwin, Mr. Hanson, Mr. Martin, and Mr. Richards. Also present
was Beverly Kinney, Secretary.
Mr. Richards informed the members of Mr. Azzarello's immediate
resignation from the Board. Mr. Martin moved to accept Mr.
Azzarello's resignation, seconded by Mr. Hanson. Motion Carried
6-0.
Mr. Richards informed the Board that nominations for Industrial
Appreciation Week were being handled by the New Smyrna Beach, Oak
Hill, Edgewater Chamber of Commerce.
Mr. Martin reported that he had spoken to Mr. Reichardt of the
Volusia County Business Development Corporation, and the company
that had been interested in an aircraft manufacturing plant had
changed their mind, because the Massey Airpark only had a grass
landing strip. He added the interested parties may still seek a
site in Volusia County. After some discussion Mr. Richards
suggested a follow up letter to Mr. Reichardt with a copy of the
memo from the City Council and a copy to be forwarded to the
interested parties.
Mr. Baldwin reported on the Blue Chip program. He noted that New
Smyrna Beach was already participating and Edgewater may be able
to "piggy-back". It was decided there would be more discussion
at the next regular meeting. Mr. Baldwin stated he would have
more information for the members at that time.
Mr. Richards noted a letter had been recieved from former Board
member Mrs. Florence Baker.
Mr. Martin presented the Board with a ten (10) year chronological
order of events regarding the P.I.D. property.
The members discussed a proposed park which will abut the Daytona
Beach Community College just outside of Edgewater. It was noted
that the proposed boulevard on the North side of the College
would enter into the City limits and would connect into Johns
Street. Clay Henderson had intimated that New Smyrna Beach and
Edgewater may be able to help financially with the proposed park.
Mr. Martin volunteered to do some research on this and report
back to the Board.
There was discussion regarding the proposed comprehensive plan
conseration element. The members believed there may be a
"political proolem" because the element proposes c'hanging~ the-
P.I.D. land to conservation because the area is a hardwood
hammock. The members agreed the Council should meet with the
Board prior to making any kind of decision on this matter.
Mr. Martin stated there was a quick claim deed from the Massey's
to the City to run Johns Street through their property, but there
was a sixty (60) month deadline which would be up in July 1991.
After some discussion, it was decided to ask Mrs. Massey to the
next regular meeting for input.
