08-06-1987 j o o CITY OF EDGEWATER INDUSTRIAL DEVELOPMENT BOARD REGULAR MEETING THURSDAY, AUGUST 6, 1987 7:00 P.M. CONFERENCE ROOM, CITY HALL Vice Chairman Caryl Middleton called to order a regular meeting of the Industrial Development Board at 7:00 P.M., Thursday, August 6, 1987, in the conference room of City Hall. ROLL CALL: Members present were Harold Hardester, Caryl Middleton, Ralph A. Racca and Dale Andrew. Also present was Beverly Kinney, Secretary. Robert Richards and Florence Baker were excused. APPROVAL OF MINUTES: The minutes of July 2, 1987, July 8, 1987 and July 15, 1987, were presented for approval. Mr. Andrew moved to approved the minutes, seconded by Mr. Racca. Motion Carried 4-0. OLD BUSINESS: Industrial Appreciation Week: As per a letter from the State of Florida Department of Commerce, the selection of sixty (60) regional finalists was eliminated, and a certificate will be prepared for all qualified nominees to be presented at local recognition ceremonies during Industry Appreciation Week. The selection of twelve (12) state wide award winners will remain the same. The Board discussed available places in which to hold the seminar for Industry Appreciation. Mr. Andrew stated he was not able to contact Mr. Gold of the Elks Club. The Board discussed the other choices which were the Islander, the Yacht Club and Sugar Mill, and they talked about prices and room capacity. The following order was chosen to hold the seminar: Mr. Racca moved to contact the Yacht Club as first choice, seconded by Mr. Andrew. Motion Carried 4-0. Mr. Racca moved to select the Islander as second choice, seconded by Mr. Hardester. Motion Carried 4-0 It was a unanimous decision to contact Sugar Mill as the third choice. Mrs. Middleton volunteered to contact the Yacht Club, the Islander and Sugar Mill for availability and would report back to the Board at the next meeting. Mrs. Baker wrote a letter of invitation to industry for the seminar.! Mr. Racca also wrote a letter and read it to the Board. Mr. Hard- ester moved to accept Mr. Racca's letter, seconded by Mr. Andrew. Motion Carried 4-0. Mrs. Baker had already made arrangements for her letter to be used, but it was suggested she may be able to incorporate both letters together. Mr. Racca stated there were twenty-seven members of Industry with ten (10) or more employees in New Smyrna Beach, Edgewater and Oak Hill. Mr. Racca moved for a brief recess at approximately 7:15. The meeting resumed at approximately 7:20 P.M. Mrs. Middleton suggested a special meeting for Tuesday, August 11, 1987, at 12:00 noon. Everyone agreed to this meeting. Mrs. Middleton stated New Smyrna, Oak Hill and the Chamber would be asked to attend the meeting. There was some discussion regarding the sample program passed around at the meeting (sample attached). -1- o o The Board discussed advertising the program and inviting Industry to the seminar through the newspapers. Members of Industry with less than ten (10) employees would be invited to attend the seminar at their own expense. The Logo for Industry Appreciation Week was discussed, and the Board decided it would be appropriate to put it on all correspondence for Industry Appreciation Week. There was a discussion regarding the questionaire for those attending the seminar. (see attached) The Board discussed contacting channel nine (9) news to cover the seminar, and getting air time on WSBB to advertize the event. j MISCELLANEOUS: There was a discussion about the possibility of the City purchasing property in the future to be developed as an Industrial Park. There being no further business to come before the Board, Mr. Racca moved to adjourn, seconded by Mr. Andrew. The meeting was adjourned at approximately 7:55 P.M.
