INDUSTRIAL DEVELOPMENT BOARD
SPECIAL MEETING
WEDNESDAY, JULY 8, 1987
12:00 Noon
CONFERENCE ROOM , CITY HALL
Chairman Baker called to order a special meeting of the
Industrial Development Board on Wednesday, July 8, 1987,
at 12:00 noon, in the conference room of City Hall.
ROLL CALL:
Members present were Caryl Middleton, Dale Andrew, Bob Richards
and Florence Baker. Ralph Racca arrived at 12:01 P.M. Also
present were Emmett Ross, Chairman, Industrial Board of New
Smyrna Beach, Jerry Schweikert, Chairman, Industrial Board of
the Chamber of Commerce, Harold Hardester, prospective Board
member and Beverly Kinney, Board Secretary.
OLD BUSINESS:
Industry Appreciation Week: Mrs. Baker called Tallahassee re-
garding a definition for Industry. Mrs. Claire Ferrara, of the
Department of Commerce, Economic Development Director's Office
said their definition was (for the State wide program) manufact-
uring, distribution and corporate headquarters in Florida. It
does not include retail, national franchises or utility companies.
Mrs. Ferrara asked Mrs. Baker to get in touch with Lou Frye to
possibly coordinate the date and time of the Industry Appreciation
program, so the same speaker from the state could be used for the
Volusia County Manufacturers Association and our local program.
Mr. Ross said Mayor Musson felt the three (3) cities getting
together was a good idea and would be different from programs
in the past.
There was some discussion regarding payment of meals for the
invited guests. Mr. Ross stated Mayor Musson had given his
O.K., but it would have to go before the Commission. Mrs. Baker
felt the Edgewater Council would cover some of the cost, and the
Chamber could also pick up some, but was waiting to hear from Oak Hill.
Mr. Schweikert arrived and Mrs. Baker introduced him to the Board.
Mrs. Baker suggested having the Chamber send out invitations on
their stationary.
The Board decided to get prices on a continental breakfast and
a light luncheon from the Elks Club, the Yacht Club, Sugar Mill
Country Club and the Islander.
There was some discussion regarding the time alloted per speaker
at the proposed workshop. The Board decided on a maximum of
twenty (20) minutes which would include a question/answer period.
Mr. Racca moved that a continental breakfast, a workshop and a
luncheon be held for the local industry people in recognition
of Industry Appreciation Week, seconded by Mr. Richards. Motion
Carried 5-0.
The Board discussed possible dates and decided on Wednesday,
September 16, 1987, from 8:30 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. The Board also
discussed approximately how many people to expect as guests and
figured it would not be more than one hundred (100).
The Board agreed to hold their next meeting, Wednesday, July 15,
1987, at 12:00 noon, in the conference room of City Hall.
There being no further business to come before the Board, Mr. Racca
moved to adjourn, seconded by Mr. Richards. Meeting adjourned 1:00 P.M.
Minutes respectfully submitted by:
Beverly Kinney, Board Secretary
