10-03-1985 ~ u ~ ~ CITY OF EDGEWATER INDUSTRIAL DEVELOPMENT BOARD REGULAR MEETING OCTOBER 3, 1985 Minutes Chairman Doris Massey called the Regular Meeting to order at 7:00 P.M., in the Community Center Building. ROLL CALL Members present: Messrs. Ralph Racca and Edward Siconolfi, Mrs. Caryl Middleton and Mrs. Doris Massey. Excused: Mr. Clarence Gnau. Absent: Messrs. John Vazquez and Darwin Schneider. Also present: Susan Butler, secretary. APPROVAL OF MINUTES A motion was made by Mr. Siconolfi to approve the minutes of September 5, 1985, Regular Meeting, seconded by Mrs. Middleton. Motion CARRIED 4-0. OLD BUSINESS Industrial Appreciation Fair Report. Chairman Massey stated that the part each one of the Board members contributed to the Fair was commendable and she thanked each and everyone. Chairman Massey reported to the Board that she had put together a booklet for next year's Industrial Fair to refer to for the names of the companies, the signatures of company representatives and signatures of guests. Chairman Massey stated that among the guests were Mayor Baugh and all of the City Councilmen. Chairman Massey said, on behalf of the Industrial Board, she wrote a letter of appreciation for the support the Mayor and City Council members gave the Industrial Board, in making the Industry Appreciation Fair a very successful event. Chairman Massey informed the Board that she had also written a letter of thanks to Mr. Michael Bobroff for attending and participating in the Industrial Program. Chairman Massey continued by saying that she informed Mr. Bobroff that Certificates of Appreciation were delivered to all companies who partici- pated in the Fair and those who could not attend. Chairman Massey stated that a letter of appreciation was included with all Certificates of Appreciation sent to the companies. She explained that if the company participated with a booth, or tour, or both, that the letter thanked them accordingly. Chairman Massey stated that thirty Certificates of Appreciation were awarded to various companies. Chairman Massey gave special thanks to Mrs. Middleton for her help in gathering information on the various businesses. Chairman Massey stated that, in the letter to Coronado Paint Company, the Board was very proud to have their firm chosen as a Regional Finalist for Economic and Civic Contributions to the City of Edgewater, as well as to the State of Florida. Chairman Massey read a letter from the Board, to Dave Garrett, Parks and Recreation Director, thanking him for his assistance in the Fair. Chairman Massey informed the Board that letters of appreciation, from the Board, were also sent to Security First Federal, First Federal of Edgewater, Sun Bank and First Federal of Titusville. u ~ .. ~ , .' Chairman Massey informed the Board that Jodi Phillips, with the Department of Commerce, was moving and a letter was written to her, telling her of the Board's regrets that she is moving, but the Board wished her happiness and success in her new location, in Boca Raton. Chairman Massey reported that the expenses for the Fair were within the Industrial Board's budget. Chairman Massey reported that expenses for the reception were $154.22; Quik Print, $20.90; Savey's for the frame, $20.65; postage, $1.54; for a total, excluding the bus expense, of $197.31. Mrs. Middleton asked what the expense was for the busses and Chairman Massey replied that she did not have that figure, as yet. Mr. Siconolfi said that a letter should be sent to Buz for the use of his sign. Chairman Massey responded that she had talked to him personally and thanked him. Chairman Massey said that she would send a letter to him. The Board had a brief discussion about the success of the Fair. Chairman Massey stated that Jo Ann Taylor had volunteered her free time to assist the Board with clerical preparations and follow-up of the Fair. The Board had a discussion about the excellent public turn-out for the Industrial Appreciation Fair, even considering the rainy weather, and how it brought closer relationships between the public and industry in the area. The Board had a brief discussion about needing more advertisement for next year's Fair. The Board had a brief discussion about where to place the Proclamation and wondered if it could be hung in City Hall. The Board then discussed the possibilities of having the Tour, at next year's Fair, during working days and hours, so that the public could see the individual businesses in operation. Chairman Massey suggested that next year's Tour be extended to three or four hours. The Board had a discussion on how well the public liked the display booths of the individual industries. Mr. Racca suggested that a letter of inquiry be sent out to local industries, asking them if they would be interested in participating, during working hours, in next year's Tour list. The Board had a brief discussion about placing a note in the file as a reminder to send out advertisement on the water bills, well in advance of next year's Fair. The Board had a discussion about renting a sign for a week prior to next year's fair, to advertise in advance. The Board then discussed having radio, rental signs, water bills and newspaper advertisement for next year. NEW BUSINESS Election Of Chairman And Vice Chairman. Chairman Massey explained that the election was suppose to be in September, but the Board had been busy with the Industrial Fair. Mrs. Middleton nominated Mrs. Doris Massey as Chairman, Mr. Siconolfi seconded. Motion CARRIED 4-0. Mr. Siconolfi nominated Mr. Ralph Racca as Vice Chairman, Mrs. Middleton seconded. Motion CARRIED 4-0. -2- Industrial Development Board October 3, 1985 u u / Board Comments Chairman Massey asked the Board members if they had any comments they would like to discuss. Mr. Racca asked if one of the responsibilities of the Industrial Board was to invite new industry into the area. Chairman Massey responded yes, and explained that when talking to representatives of industries, it is always advisable to invite industries to Edgewater. Chairman Massey stated that Edgewater does not have a lot of industrial land available for sale, at the present time. She continued by saying that one of the projects, the Industrial Board was working on, was three hundred acres contiguous to John Street that has not been available because there is no access. The Board had a brief discussion about the purpose of the Industrial Board is to assist the City Council in attracting and interesting industry to locate in the City of Edgewater. Chairman Massey read the Resolution to the Board members and asked Mrs. Butler to supply a copy of the Resolution to Mr. Racca and Mr. Siconolfi. Mrs. Middleton stated that the Industrial Board does not have a budget, they just ask for what they need and the Council either approves or disapproves. ADJOURN Mrs. Middleton made a motion to adjourn at 7:45 P.M., which was seconded by Mr. Siconolfi, and the meeting was adjourned.
