08-01-1985 CITY OF EDGEWATER INDUSTRIAL DEVELDPMENT OOARD August 1, 1985 . ... \/,' ~\ 1/GW V' ~ /" ~ c:; MINUTES Chairman Massey called the regular meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. in the Community Center. ... Members present: Mrs. Massey, Mrr:;;. Middleton; Messrs". Gnat! and Siconolfij. Mr. Vazquez was excused; Messrs. Faidley and Schneider were absent. lUSO present was one member of the Press. APPROVAL OF MINUTES Mrs. Massey recommended approval of the June 6th minutes, regular meeting, and also June 25th, 1985 Joint Workshop Meeting with City Council. Mr. Gnau then. rroved they be accepted, seconded by Mr. Siconolfi. CARRIED 4-0. OID BUSINESS Industrial Appreciation Week. Mrs. Massey read a letter sent to various businesses, inviting them to participate on September 21, 1985, by setting up booths to display products and anything else of interest to the public, as well as inviting them to participate in tours by the public. Mrs. Massey also stated that Coronado Paint Company had been selected for nomination as one of the top ten for our district, and there will be a Certificate for presentation at the Fair, and they were so advised. A letter was received from them, stating they will have a display and tour. Mrs. Massey read the large businesses notified. They are as follows: Coronado Paint, Noland Car, Atlantic Fiberglass, Waco, Edgewater Machine and Fabricators, Watercraft of America, Seaway, Indian River Glass, Tropical Blossom, A-I Truss, Southern Instruments, and Tarmac. Mr. Gnau asked what the response was and Mrs. Massey stated Coronado has responded and will be happy to be on the tour. An answer was also received from Aqua Park, stating they would be happy to conduct a tour of the pool and would also set up a display in the Center. ~rrs. Massey made a personal tour to Atlantic Properties, formerly Atlantic Fiberglass, saying it was amazing, that an industrial park exists in those buildings, and recited some of the businesses located there. The tour could spend quite a bit of time there. Mrs. Massey also toured Southern Instruments and stated they would like to be on the tour, also. A discussion then followed in regard to the use of two buses for the Fair. A letter was sent to the Mayor and Commissioners of New Smyrna Beach, requesting the use of sarre. Mrs. ~IDssey then read a tentative schedule to be followed for the Fair, commencing at 10:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. The Mayor will be first on the program with the Proclamat ion. Michael Bobroff, Florida Department of Corrmerce, will be a guest speaker and will also make the presentation of the Department of Commerce Certificate to Coronado Paint Company. There will be displays in the Corrmuni ty Center by several companies; at 10: 30 a bus tour, and at 12: 30 a second bus tour. The Reception and presentation of Certificates to various fi:rms is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. A discussion then followed as to the path to be taken by the Tour. It was suggested to go out Park Avenue; go by Tarmac with comments; go on up to Edgewater Machine; turn around and go west past Waco, with comments; then next door to Atlantic Properties, then tour; tour Coronado Paint, where a thirty minute time limit will have to be made, as the industry is so large. From there go to Aqua Park; next possibly to Noland Car, but they have not indicated they will participate; then down Roberts Road and up llibiscus to Southern Instruments, which would be the end of the tour. .Mrs. Middleton suggested the tours should be limited to 1 hour and 45 minutes, in order to get back, unload, and reload for the 12: 30 tour, two buses to go at one time. . .- .... I (.) <.J A discussion followed as to contacting people, and how to l~t the number who will want to visit the Fair, as the buses will just hold 15 or 20. A "first corre first served" basis may have to be used. Mrs. Massey then stated the Winter Park Office of the Departrrent of Corrrrerce has a new address which will be secured for our files. Mrs. Massey made a suggestion as to the type of printed program to be used. This will be considered after deliberation by the rrerrbers. The question of having food, etc. was discussed, and Mr. Gnau said the Volunteer Fire Departrrent could be contacted. Mr. Siconolfi stated he would look into this part of the Fair concerning food and soft drink concessions. Mrs. Massey suggested everyone corre to the September meeting with definite ideas for the Fair, especially food for the reception, and she asked MIS. Middleton to take charge of this, and Mrs. Middleton agreed to do so. A discussion of the amount of money to be allowed for this project followed, and the sum of $600. was given, of which it was estimated $120. will be for the buses. It was also decided that a script would be needed for Board rrerrbers who will be on the bus giving infonnation to the persons on the tours. John Vazquez will be asked to do this, as he had stated previously he would, along with Darwin Schneider, and Mrs. Massey said she would assist where needed. The Board then discussed the use of banners to advertise the Fair, and Mr. Gnau stated he would look into this. Mrs. Massey and Mrs. Middleton said they would get together before the Fair and compile a program to be used. 1rrs. 1fussey then briefly discussed the pamphlet concerning the firms within the State awarded certificates last year and explained how the industrial firms are selected. NEW BUSINESS Mrs. Massey read a letter from Dennis Fischer, Building Departrrent, enclosing a copy of letter from Mr. Thomas Huger, regarding VolusiaCounty Corrmuni ty Developrrent; anyone interested to contact Mr. Huger. Mrs. Massey then stated ~rr. Asting checked into the matter of getting an opening across the Railroad. This was brought before the City Engineer, and Mr. Asting was given the authority to rreet with the Railroad and may be coming to sorre agree- rrent. They will need roads, sewer, water, etc. for the new college, and Mrs. Massey said she had been working to get any accesses and dedications they might need from the owners, and believes it looks very promising. A discussion then followed as to the streets needed and everything seems pretty definite. A motion was made by Mrs. Middleton to adjourn the meeting, seconded by Mr. Siconolfi. ~ION CARRIED, 4-0.
