OLD BUSINESS - Industrial Appreciation Week
The Industrial Fair, set for September 21, 1985, was approved by the City
Council in a special meeting immediately preceeding this special meeting.
At their meeting the Council approved the use of funds up to $600. Chairman
Massey asked for suggestions from the members. She explained that the
Community Center has been reserved for this date. A bus tour for the day
will be considered.
Mrs. Massey noted that July 4th falls on the regular meeting day of the
Board. If necessary, a meeting may be called for later in the month.
Mr. Gnau recommended that a questionnaire be developed which should be sent
to the industries who will participate. Certain industries may be invited
to put on a display and other industries will prefer to open their businesses
for a tour. The members agreed that the suggestion by the Council that the
banking industries in Edgewater be included was good. Mr. Siconolfi also
recommended that a representative from the Florida East Coast Railroad Company
be invited. The Chairman asked the members if they agreed that Michael Bob-
roff with the Department of Commerce should be invited. This was felt to
be a good suggestion.
The members discussed the format of the letter to the industries. Mrs.
Massey asked Mr. Schneider to talk to Mr. Coffey, who is with the Smyrna
Transit System, to finu out costs for the buses. This information will
need to be obtained as soon as possible so that it can be presented to
the City Council before their meeting on July 1. Mr. Schneider agreed to
talk to Mr. Coffey.
The letter and questionaire form was considered. It was agreed that specific
businesses be invited to open their doors for the tour. It would be more
suitable for other businesses to set up a display at the Community Center.
The tour route was tentatively set, and Mr. Schneider and Mrs. ~Bssey agreed
to go along on the buses as tour guides. Touring Watercraft America and the
prestress plant was considered. The tour would first go out Park Avenue
then down to Marion Avenue and on to Noland Car Company, and possibly to
Watercraft America. Mrs. Massey mentioned that the buses could come back
by way of the Menard-May Park on Riverside Drive, which was recently opened.
Edgewater Athletic Association may wish to set up a concession stand across
the street from the Community Center, it was pointed out.
Some of the questions which may be included in the questionnaire are: when
was your business established, how many employees do you have, what is your
total payroll per year, owner and president of the firm. Mr. Gnau said that
once the questionnaire is completed and returned, an itinerary can be estab-
lished and the length of time at each site can also be set. Regarding the
booths it will need to be determined how many square feet they will need for
their display. Tables are available at the Community Center, but they may
have a booth of their own which could be set up. Also, the number of people
o

who will be present from each firm needs to be determined.
It was agreed that two tour buses making two trips would be necessary, and
the tours should be kept at one and a half hours. ItMasa~so_agreed .to open
the day at 10 a.m. with the first tour beginning at 10:30 a.m. The second
tour would begin at 12:30 p.m. It was suggested the doors be closed to the
public at 3 p.m. and the reception would follow at 4 p.m. The day could
begin with the proclamation by the Mayor and :the CertLEicates.__oLAppreciation
presented at that time; a few words from Michael Bobroff of the Department
of Commerce was suggested.
Mr. Gnau recommended a workshop following the receipt of the questionnaires
from the businesses.
Mr. Schneider moved for adjournment and the motion was seconded by Mrs.
Middleton. The meeting was adjourned at 8:25 p.m.
