The meeting was called to order by Chairman Massey at 7:10 p.m. in the
Community Center.
ROLL CALL
Members present: Mrs. Middleton, Mrs. Massey, Messrs. Cichewicz, Gnau,
Faidley and Foleno. Excused: Mr. Schneider. Absent: Mr. Vazquez.
Also present~_ Mrs. Taylor, Secretary.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
A motion by Mr. Gnau and seconded by Mr. Faidley to approve the minutes
of the September 6, 1984 meeting CARRIED 6-0.
OLD BUSINESS
Mrs. Massey informed those present of the activities in New Smyrna Beach
during Industrial Appreciation Week. She attended the City sponsored
luncheon at the Islander and felt that she had gleaned many good ideas
which could be useful should Edgewater undertake such a fair at a later time.
CORRESPONDENCE
The Chairman advised the Board members that Molding Technology of Lake
Monroe, Florida, had requested an updated list of manufacturers in the
Edgewater area, and this list was provided to them.
A letter dated October 22, 1984 from the Florida Department of Commerce
was read into the records. This letter contained copies of new rules
and application forms for funding from the Economic Development Trans-
portation Fund. No matching funds are required, but matching partici-
pation by local government is important, the letter stated.
Mrs. Massey pointed out that there are expanding industries in the City
which would qualify for this grant. She asked for the Board's recommenda-
tions regarding this matter. Mr. Gnau motioned that this letter and
application be submitted to the City Council for appropriate action. Mr.
Cichewicz seconded the motion, which CARRIED 6-0. Mrs. Massey said that
she would send the letter and let the Mayor and City Council know that
the Board is willing to assist in any way that they can. It was felt that
Park Avenue should be one of those streets considered for improvement.
A letter from The Pennsylvania State University requesting that the City
Industrial Development Board complete a 13 page survey of local industrial
development groups was reviewed by the members. Mrs. Massey asked the
Board's opinion as to whether this survey pertained to the City's Indus-
trial Development Board. Mr. Cichewicz felt that the questions would be
simple enough to answer. After some discussion, Mr. Cichewicz suggested
that each member take a copy of the survey home to work on and come to the
next meeting and compare answers and complete the survey for submission
to the University. He felt that the Board should try to cooperate with
the request. It was agreed that this would be done.
Mrs. Massey referred to her letter to the Planning and Zoning Board con-
cerning permitted uses in the industrial zones. She asked if any of the
members had anything further they would like brought before the Planning
Board. Mr. Cichewicz asked if there was a response from the Planning
Board and was advised that there was none. He noted that this Board has
offered to work with them if there was something specific which needed
work. He expressed surprise that there was no follow up from the Planning
and Zoning Board.
The memorandum from the Daytona Beach Community College Project Director,
Lois Wescott, outlining planned programs at the college was called to the
members' attention.

Q
o
Mrs. Massey explained that the Chamber of Commerce Economic Board has
organized a Task Force which is comprised of both New Smyrna Beach and
Edgewater people. This group provides specific information for an industry
wishing to corne into the area. Walt Walter with the Southeast Bank is
Chairman and helps with the financing end. Flo Baker with the State
Employment Office provides information for the employment side. Utilities,
transportation, real estate and local administration people are part of
this Task Force Committee.
Mr. Foleno commented that there needs to be somebody on the Board who is
familiar with taking surveys and who has the time. Mrs. Massey said that
this is what the Task Force would do. Mr. Foleno said that he did a lot
of surveys on his job with an engineering firm up north.
Mrs. Massey read the newspaper article concerning the Industrial Board members
in New Smyrna Beach continuing their visits to industrial sites. Mrs. Massey
said that it is important to remember to show those industries already here
that we appreciate them.
Mr. Faidley motioned that the meeting be adjourned. The meeting was adjourned
at 8:10 p.m.
