ROLL CALL Members present: Mrs. Massey, Mrs. Middleton, Messrs. Poland, Gnau, Schneider and Vazquez. Excused: Messrs. Foleno and Faidley. Also present: Mrs. Taylor, Secretary. APPROVAL OF MINUTES A motion was made by Mr. Vazquez and seconded by Mr. Poland to approve the minutes of the June 7, 1984 meeting. The motion CARRIED 6-0. OLD BUSINESS - Industri'al Appreciation Week Mrs. Massey reviewed the letter sent to City Council in which the Board recommended a small industrial fair be held on September 22 in the Community Center. The Board had also requested authorization to have a reception for industry representatives. She advised that the Council had given them the use of the Community Center for the event, but would not approve the use of funds for the reception. Mrs. Massey informed those present that the secretary had received two inquiries from Zon Energy in Ormond Beach about the fair, requesting that they be mailed applications to participate in the fair. Zon Energy does work in Edgewater for the Florida Power and Light Company. Mrs. Massey sought the Board's recommendation reo asking Council to reconsider the use of funds for the fair and reception. Minutes from the City Council meeting of June 18 pertaining to the Board's request were read. Board members talked about the purpose of the Industrial Board and wonder- ed whether they were accomplishing their goal. All members present expressed their disappointment and concern about the apparent lack of understanding and support of their recommendations. It was pointed out by Mr. Vazquez that Council has given approval to hold the fair, but it did not provide the funds to properly do the job. He questioned if the Board wanted to continue with the fair under these circumstances. The members felt that having the fair and the reception to express appreciation for their contribution to the City is a complete "kit". They did not feel that the fair should be held without the reception. Mr. Schneider recommended that the Board go ahead with the plans for just a fair this year in the hope that Council would approve the expenses for letters of invitation, mailing, certificates of appreciation, etc. Mrs. Massey pointed out that time is running out. It was agreed that the industrial fair should be cancelled this year. Mrs. Middleton motioned that the proposal for an Industrial Fair be with- drawn. Mr. Schneider suggested that an amendment be added that a letter be sent to Council advising them of same. Mr. Poland seconded the amended motion, which CARRIED 6-0. Fifth Annual Florida Industrial Development Workshop -July 22 thru 25 Mrs. Massey reported that Council did approve the Board's request that she attend this workshop. NEW BUSINESS - Permitted uses in the I-Zones Mrs. Massey read the letter from the Planning and Zoning Board dated .. ~ o June 15, in which they requested the Industrial Board to review the permitted uses in the industrial zones. After some discussion the members decided to postpone work on the permitted uses to give them time to do some research. THis will be put on the August agenda. Mrs. Taylor was asked to advise the Planning and Zoning Board that the recommendation of the Board will be forthcoming after the next meeting. Mrs. Middleton motioned that the meeting be adjourned. Mr. Poland seconded the motion. The meeting was adjourned at 8:25 p.m. Minutes submitted by Joan Taylor Industrial Development Board July 5, 1984 - 2 -
