APPROVAL OF MINUTES A motion was made by Mr. Gnau and seconded by Mrs. Middleton to approve the minutes of the AprilS, 1984 minutes. The motion CARRIED 7-0. OLD BUSINESS Industrial. Appreciation Week - On review I Mrs. Massey reported that Lt. Gov. Wayne Mixson has declared Industry Appreciation Week to be September 17 thru September 21st. She pointed out that the City could take one of several approaches to recognizing industry; the City could have an affair within the City or they could work with the New Smyrna BeachjEdgewater Chamber of Commerce. It could be held in conjunction with the New Smyrna Industry Appreciation Week at the Airport Industrial Park. The members discussed at length the pros and cons of each location, and the kind of program which should be held. Mrs. Massey said that the subject was discussed at the Chamber of Commerce Economic Board meeting on the previous day, and the idea of a combined program met with their approval. Displays could be provided by the various industries. After much thoughtful consideration, the members of the Board agreed that the City of Edgewater should have their own event to acknowledge the indus- tries within the City. It was suggested that the various industries could set up booths to display their work in the Community Center.and outside the building if more space was needed. Saturday, September 22 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. was scheduled for the date and time of the affair. It was suggested that perhaps the Edgewater Athletic Association could sell hotdogs, popcorn and drinks throughout the day. A reception for those industry representatives present could be held after 4 p.m. Advertising the day was planned. Mr. Vazquez suggested that the City Council may wish to make a Resolution proclaiming that week as Industry Appreciation week. Invitations to the industries and Certificates of Appreciation will be needed. It was suggested that the plan for the Appreciation Day be presented to City Council for their approval at the June 18th meeting. Mrs. Massey was asked to be present at the meeting to answer any questions which may arise. Mrs. Massey said that she has sent off the form nominating the Tropical Blossom Honey Company to vie for an award which will be presented by the Governor during Industrial Appreciation Day. NEW BUSINESS Access streets from Park Avenue Estates Mobile Horne Park to Park Avenue Mrs. Massey read the letter from Mr. Dennis Fischer, Building Official, in which he stated that Mr. McCallister has proposed two roads to be constructed in the next year or so from his mobile home park onto Park Avenue. The comments he has received from the street department, the fire department and the police have indicated no objection to the streets. Mr. Fischer stated that final approval will be given pending acceptance by the Industrial Board. l 1 '0 It was pointed out that these roads will corne through the industrially zoned land along Park Avenue. Mr. Faidley commented that the property will be almost unusable for industrial purposes if a 30-.foot road goes through the middle of it. The members felt there is no need for the easternmost road for safety purposes or access to the park and this would be a waste of the industrial land. Those members present were in agreement that there snould be one 30-foot road on the most westerly end of the industrial land. Mr. Schneider motioned that a letter be sent to the Building Official and to the City Council stating that in the opinion of the Industrial Board, further division of the industrial property would render it less effective as an industrial site and that an additional roadway would cause undue traffic problems in the event that an industry develops there, and that they recommend one road on the most westerly portion of the industrial property. Mr. Poland seconded the motion. The motion CARRIED 7-0. Fifth Annual Florida Industrial Development Workshop, Tallahassee - July 22 thru 25. Theme: "Formulas For FLORIDA's Future" Mrs. Massey asked if any of the members would like to attend the workshop. She stated this is a good workshop and it provides good contacts for Edgewater. Mrs. Middleton said they would like for Mrs. Massey to attend the seminar. There was discussion about the costs involved; Mrs. Massey explained that the seminar fee is $75.00 and room cost per night is $41.00. She estimated the total cost to be between $400 to $500. Mrs. Middleton motioned that Mrs. Massey attend the seminar to represent the City and the Board, and that all expenses be paid by the City. Mr. Faidley seconded the motion. The motion CARRIED 7-0. Board Comments Mrs. Massey explained the "Blue Chip" program which has been launched by the Florida Department of Commerce,Division of Economic Development. She stated that New Smyrna Beach has made application for this. Mrs. Massey also circulated an article from the Florida Department of Commerce which announces that Florida is Number One again in the United States with the top business climate.
