CITY OF EDGEWATER
Industrial Development Board Regular Meeting
AprilS, 1984
Minute s
Chairman Massey called the meeting to order at 7:10 p.m. in the Community
Center.
ROLL CALL
Members present: Mrs. Massey, Mrs. Middleton, Messrs. Poland, Faidley and
Schneider. Excused: Messrs. Foleno, Gnau and Vazquez. Also present:
Mrs. Taylor, Secretary.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
A motion was made by Mr. Schneider, and seconded by Mrs. Middleton, to
approve the March 1, 1984 minutes. The motion CARRIED 5-0.
OLD BUSINESS - Industrial Appreciation Week
Mrs. Massey said that she received a letter signed by Wayne Mixson from
the Department of Commerce dated March 7 which enclosed with it nomination
forms for the Florida Industry Appreciation program. These need to be
filled out and mailed to the Bureau of Business and Community Development
Regional Office by April 20. Two industries will be selected from each
region to be honored by the Governor with an award during Industrial
Appreciation Week, which is September 17 through 21.
The members discussed the criteria to consider in making their recommendations.
They noted that the company community contributions should be considered.
After some discussion the Board members agreed to recommend Waco Manufacturing
Company and Tropical Blossom Honey Co. Because of the information required
by the forms provided it was determined that those members filling out the
form should call on the company to get accurate data. Mrs. Massey offered
to call on Tropical Blossom Honey Co. and Mr. Schneider agreed to call at
Waco Manufacturing, Inc.
On another matter, Mrs. Massey mentioned that the Department of Commerce will
cooperate with the City in that any available warehouses 'in the area can be
listed and will be put on their computers. They need to be kept advised of
changes in the status of the building. This lets interested businesses know
that there is space available for them if they wish to situate in Edgewater.
The members discussed the need to call on the businesses on a one on one basis.
Mrs. Middleton suggested that a couple of months before the Industrial Appre-
ciation Week those businesses which have not been visited would then be called
upon.
Exhibits by various businesses during Industrial Appreciation Week were men-
tioned as a way to highlight the industrial growth in the City. This small
"industrial fair" could be open to the public. The members agreed to discuss
the idea with some of the local industries to see if they are interested in
participating. Mrs. Massey asked the members to make notes of those people
they have contacted and come to the meeting next month with a report.
NEW BUSINESS
Mrs. Middleton said she talked to a gentlemen who said he had some very good
contacts to bring industry into the City. He mentioned that they needed
2,000 acres of land. Mrs. Massey said that the Board does have help avail-
able through the Department of Commerce and through Bud Denton, who is employed
by the County. Mr. Denton is the industrial representative whose job it is
to bring industry to the County. She said that the City is getting a lot of
backing from these sources. She suggested that this matter brought to the
Board by Mrs. Middleton could be checked through Mr. Denton. Mrs. Middleton
turned the information over to Mrs. Massey.
The meeting was adjourned at 8:15 p.m.
