*Mr. Schneider arrived to the meeting at 7 p.m.
This workshop meeting was called to make preparations for an Industrial
Appreciation Month in the spring.
The members discussed the letter from Lieutenant Governor Mixson dated
January 4, in which he urges that cities join with the State in their
proposed Industry Appreciation Week in Florida scheduled for the third
week in September. The members agreed that they would like to have the
official recognition of the local industries at the same time as the State.
This would consist of a reception for the heads of the companies involved.
In the meantime the members would visit the industrial sites. It was
suggested that perhaps a newspaper story featuring a different industry
each week could be done. The Board members decided to start the visitations
to the different industries after the next regular meeting in February.
Further study will be done on the newspaper column idea for the next meeting.
The members agreed that Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. of each week would be their
visitation time and they would go as a group, rather than individually.
It was suggested that the business to be visited would be informed approxi-
mately one week prior to the scheduled visit.
Mrs. Massey said that she would talk to Beth with the News Journal concerning
their coverage.
The members reviewed the manufacturer's list obtained from City Hall to
determine which businesses are considered industrial.
Miscellaneous
Mrs. Massey read the letter from Mr. Bud Denton, expressing his thanks for
the opportunity to speak to the New Smyrna Beach/Edgewater Chamber of
Commerce on January 12. Mr. Denton is Economic Representative for Volusia
County. Mr. Vazquez noted that Mr. Jack Ascher1 will be the guest speaker
at the next Economic Development Board meeting in February.
The members expressed their thanks to Mrs. Middleton for bringing sandwiches
to the workshop, which were sent compliments of the Southeast Bank.
The meeting was adjourned at 8 p.m.
