09-02-1982 ~ Q CITY OF EDGEWATER Industrial Development Board Meeting Setpember 2, 1982 Minutes Mrs. Massey called the meeting to order at 7:05 p.m. in the conference area of the Community Center. ROLL CALL Members present: Mrs. Massey, Mrs. Middleton, Messrs. Schneider, Sawyer, Poland, Gnau and Faidley. Excused: Mr. Foleno. Absent: Mr. Siciliano. Also present: Mrs. Taylor, Secretary, and one member of the press. APPROVAL OF MINUTES Moved by Mr. Sawyer, seconded by Mr. Gnau, and UNANIMOUSLY CARRIED, to approve the minutes of the August 5, 1982 meeting. OLD BUSINESS Mrs. Massey introduced Mr. Michael Bobroff, Development Representative for the State of Florida. Mr. Bobroff is with the Bureau of Area Development, whose major job is to keep industries happy who are presently located in Florida, and to aid communities in their development. Mrs. Massey mentioned that she had taken Mr. Bobroff around the Edgewater area that after to familiarize him with the unique situation here. Mr. Bobroff will be conducting the "Planning for Growth Seminar" in New Smyrna Beach on September 20 and September 27. This program is designed to assist communities with their industrial growth. It is a 4-session program intended for all cOlnffiunity leaders. Mr. Bobroff pointed out that the Alexander Grant Company had conducted an extensive study which determined that Florida had the best business climate of all the 48 states; because of this study the State has gone into an extensive advertising program. Mr. Bobroff discussed the different branches of the Department of Commerce, noting particularly the Bureau of Economic Analysis, which is ready to supply almost any information on Florida. A monthly newsletter is available free to the public and can be received by asking to be put on their mailing list. He pointed out that Florida has a demand from industries for a trained labor force and the State has an Industries Services Program designed to work with the local community college or vocational technical center and start a training program to meet training needs of a particular industrial client. Mr. Bobroff called attention to Small Business Development Centers which would assist small businesses. To emphasize the importance of the infor- mation provided by the Bureau, he circulated a computer print-out which showed all the available buildings and the pertinent information about each that existed in the State. He noted that the State has a road money fund to pay for high priority roads to serve industrial clients within the State. However, he stressed that both training and road programs are set up only when the industry is definitely settling in a particular area. Mrs. Middleton asked Mr. Bobroff about the advisability of purchasing a list of names. He advised that it would be better to start with 500 names or less; he could provide a list of people who put out mailing lists.
