INDUSTRIAL DEVELOPMENT ADVISORY BOARD
May 17, 1979
Chairman Siciliano called the meeting of the Industrial Development
Advisory Board to order at 7:00 P.M. in City Hall.

Mr. Witzig made a motion that the Board approve the minutes of the
April 26, 1979 meeting. Mr. Kane seconded the motion. The motion
CARRIED 9-0.
Mr. Brown introduced Mrs. Florence Baker who is a= supervisor of
the Florida State Employment Office and also the Chairman of the
Chamber of Commerce Industrial Board. Mr. Brown also introduced Mr. Dodd
who is the industrial representative for the City of New Smyrna Beach.
Mr. Dodd spoke to the Board members. He told the Board that his prime
interest is the industrial development of Southeast Volusia County which
includes New Smyrna Beach and Edgewater. There is a need for the type
of concerns that would hire substantial numbers of local employees.
This is the first objective of an industrial board. We need businesses
that will broaden the economic base of the cities. We should try to
attract the type of business that will offer worthy job opportunities and
future advancement for our educated young men and women. The executives
of local businesses should also be sensitive to the corporate responsi-
bilities to the community and participate in local affairs. - .
There was some discussion about the Chamber of Commerce Industrial Board
and certain goals that they have set to bring industry into this area.
Mr. Dodd answered questions from Board members and told them that he
would welcome the opportunity to assist the Edgewater Industrial Board
in any way that he could.
Mrs. Baker spoke to the Board concerning employment in the area. She
also offered the assistance of her department in helping the industrial
boards in the area establish the amount and type of ?killed and unskilled
labor that would be available to a prospective developer.
Mr. Siciliano thanked both Mr. Dodd and Mrs. Baker. He told the Board
that there would be a seminar on industrial development, sponsored by
DBCC and the Chamber of Commerce. These lectures would be held on
Monday night commencing May 21, 1979, from 7:30 to 9:30. The course
would last six weeks and he hoped most of the members would be able to
attend.

The Board discussed the grant from the State for advertising. The
City Council has stated that they cannot match this grant.
Mr. Brown made a motion that we try to get the money that the State
had offered to Edgewater given to New Smyrna Beach Chamber of Commerce
to help them in their advertising. Mr. Witsig seconded the motion.
The motion CARRIED 9-0.
Mr. Dodd said that he would contact the State and find out if this
was possible.
The Board discussed the flow chart that Mr. Siciliano had prepared.
Each me~ber' of the Bbard .will be assigned a specific a~ea of the chart
and will be responsible for l'earning all they can about that area so
that they can have the necessary information to give a prospective
industrial developer.

Mrs. Brown made a motion that the Board adopt the Flow Chart. Mr. Kane
seconded the motion. The motion CARRIED 9-0.
Mrs. Brown asked to be excused from the June 21, 1979 Industrial Board
Meeting.
Mr. Siciliano again thanked Mr. Dodd and Mrs. Baker for coming to the
meeting.
Mr. Brown made a motion to adjourn the meeting. Mrs. Mackie seconded
the motion. The meeting was adjourned.
