06-09-1998 - Special y ....., CITY COUNCIL OF EDGEWATER SPECIAL MEETING JUNE 9, 1998 6:00 P.M. COMMUNITY CENTER MINUTES CALL TO ORDER Mayor Allman called the Special Meeting to order at 6:03 p.m. in the Community Center. ROLL CALL Mayor Randy Allman Councilman James Gornto Councilman Myron Hammond Councilman Gary Roberts Councilwoman Judith Lichter City Attorney Nikki Clayton City Manager Kevin Grace City Clerk Susan Wadsworth Police Chief Lawrence Schumaker Present Present Present Present Present Present Present Present Present MEETING PURPOSE Mayor Allman stated the purpose of the meeting was to consider a personnel matter being brought forward by the City Manager. City Manager Grace read a statement offering his resignation as City Manager. His resignation would be effective upon approval and execution of his agreement tonight. He will remain available to the City on an as needed basis through September 30, 1998. He thanked the many people who were supportive of him during his tenure. He wished the City the best in its future endeavors. City Manager Grace asked Council to approve the agreement which has been provided to them and to appoint Chief Schumaker as Acting City Manager. He suggested Council contact Ken Hooper to see if he would be available to assist them in this transition period. Mayor Allman asked for a motion to accept the agreement brought forward by City Manager Grace. Councilwoman Lichter reluctantly made that motion, second by Councilman Hammond. The motion CARRIED 5-0. Mayor Allman asked for a motion to appoint Chief Schumaker as Acting City Manager. Councilman Roberts so moved, second by Councilman Hammond. The motion CARRIED 5-0. City Attorney Clayton stated City Manager Grace suggested contacting Ken Hooper and if there is interest with putting this as an agenda item for the next Council meeting scheduled for June 15th. She informed Council they could suggest this be placed on the agenda and ask someone to make a phone call to find out if he is interested. Chief Schumaker informed Council he doesn't covet the job or desire the job and will serve at the will of the Council for an interim basis but he will be at a convention next week and won't be back full time until Friday. Council had no problem with this. Councilwoman Lichter asked Mayor Allman to call and see if perhaps Ken Hooper could come on board by Monday night to handle any crucial matters they may have. Mayor Allman stated he would do that. City Attorney Clayton stated they may want to find out if the other Councilmembers agree with what Councilwoman Lichter has suggested. Councilman Roberts stated Mr. Hooper is quite familiar with the workings of the City so that might be the wisest thing to do at this point. Council was all in agreement.
