Page 1 of 3 Special Meeting April 1, 2008 4 Chairwoman Haughwout read a poem regarding volunteers and thanked them for their service. Chairwoman Haughwout introduced Lucinda Colee, who thanked the volunteers on behalf of Volusia County and the Volusia County Public Libraries for their dedicated service to the Edgewater Library. Volunteers are the heart of library services. They appreciate what they do in and out of the library. She then presented Betty Jackson with a Volusia County Library Services tote bag for being the longest serving volunteer at the Edgewater Library with twenty years of service. Ms. Colee commented on the budget they turned in being based on the same revenue they received this year. That would work very well for them and they hope they stay at roll back. Roll back in Volusia County is actually a roll up so there is a slight tax increase. They have cut $100,000,000 over the last three years from the General Fund, with library services only being a very small portion. They haven't had to make too many cuts that are apparent to the public at this point. She commented on some of the positions they had to cut last year. She told everyone to enjoy their lunch. Chairwoman Haughwout then introduced Suzan Howes from the Regional Library. Ms. Howes stated she was glad to see everyone there and it was wonderful to see so many familiar faces. She expressed her appreciation to the volunteers for choosing to serve at the Edgewater Library. It is comforting to know they have such library lovers in the community that support them. Ms. McCormack recognized Dee Shaw and her group for the table decorations. Ms. Shaw recognized her group as being Jeanne Foster, Maryann Dunlop, Celia Martin, and Edie McCain. She informed the volunteers on the bottom of some of the plates were a flower sticker. Anyone who had a flower sticker won the centerpieces on the tables. Ms. McDevitt gave the blessing. At this time everyone enjoyed a delicious lunch. The entertainment this year consisted of Ruth McCormack acting out a part from the life of Jane Sheldon, who was Page 2 of 3 Special Meeting April 1, 2008 one of the earliest pioneers to New Smyrna Beach back in the 1890's. Ms. McCormack informed the volunteers that all of the letters were real from passages that were written by Mrs. Sheldon and her family.
