Subject: Property Visibility Issues - Best Western Edgewater Inn
TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
We have had countless complaints that our location is not visible by anyone. There is no way people can see our location or even
know which way to turn onto U.S. 1 (Ridgewood Avenue). Furthermore, when people do make a left at the light, many times
because of traffic in the south bound lanes of U.S. 1 and the low signage;they pass us by right away without noticing the property
and end up in New Smyrna Beach before they call for directions. The time we were constructing this property, we were demanded
by the city to do lots of landscaping, now those same trees have grown, and completely covered our entire property. We spent lots
of money getting the landscaping done, and now we will have to spend more money to get them removed just to make our
property visible. This drives revenue into New Smryna Beach and takes away from the city of Edgewater. Additionally, Alamanda
Drive is not in shown anywhere on GPS' for this location. This creates even more frustration when they turn the wrong direction
on U.S. 1 only to be directed to another Alamanda Drive. Once the guest arrives here they no longer want to stay because of all
the trouble they went to find the place in the first place.
These problems have cost the area revenue dollars when guests finally arrive tired and frustrated and state that they decline to go
out to area restaurants because they do not want to get lost again. If the hotel sign was large enough or high enough, this would
also bring in lots of walk in guests who then would spend their money in this town by dining in the nearby areas and shopping at
the nearby shopping centers. This would also increase more jobs for more people if the town has more tourists or outside people
visiting the area.
When we purchased the property we leased a spot for an off-site sign location. Carter's Motel has an off-site sign location
directing motorists to turn right on U.S. 1 at the light.

We ask that an exception or variance be allowed so that we may solve our customers' confusion and so we can better serve the
community without creating frustration for those visiting Edgewater and our location.
We respectfully request that Section 21-62 OFF-SITE SIGNS and Section 21-450.08 PROHIBITED SIGNS be amended or
clarified so that we may be permitted to place a sign on SR442 near the intersection with U.S. 1 in the leased space area. The
signage would only be a 2' by 2' sign with the Best Western logo and an arrow pointing to turn left at the light. Due to the empty
lot's owner not maintaining the trees, our property is not visible from SR-442. This is why we would like to place a sign there.
Attached are photographs so that you may clearly see the visibility problem of our property from several views. We understand
that you guys hold a meeting every first Wednesday of the month; we would like to attend that meeting which is held at 8:00 a.m.
in October and would also like to discuss this matter in person if you could please give me a call at(386) 427-7101 to set up and
appointment with someone who can help me.
Thank you for your consideration and attention to this matter

Thanks, Pat. Always enjoy seeing these! When I noticed "Business Visitations", wanted to let you know we have open house for
the Volusia County Farm Tour on Friday, Nov. 20 (time hasn't been set, but it's usually in the morning). This might be an excellent
time to come by -we tour the plant and I give my "Bee Talk".
