COMMUNITY CENTER MINUTES CALL TO ORDER Mayor Allman called the Special Meeting to order at 3:00 p.m. in the Community Center. ROLL CALL Mayor Randy Allman Councilman James Gornto Councilman Myron Hammond Councilman Gary Roberts Councilwoman Judith Lichter Interim City Attorney Nikki Clayton Interim City Manager Kenneth Hooper city Clerk Susan Wadsworth Police Chief Lawrence Schumaker Present Excused Present Present Present Arrived at 4:00 p.m. Present Present Excused CITY MANAGER TELEPHONE INTERVIEWS Interim City Manager Hooper stated he added fifteen minutes to the first interview for a start up so they are okay on time. city Clerk Wadsworth contacted J. Kevin Grace from Longwood, Florida for his telephone interview. Interim City Manager Hooper explained the interview process to Mr. Grace. Questions were asked by each Councilperson. Interim City Manager Hooper informed Mr. Grace a short list would be made and he would be contacted very soon. There was a brief discussion regarding the way the interview with Mr. Grace went. There was a ten-minute recess at this time. City Clerk Wadsworth contacted Dennis R. Tinberg from Plymouth, Massachusetts for his telephone interview. Interim City Manager Hooper explained the interview process to Mr. Tinberg. Questions were asked by each councilperson. Interim City Manager Hooper informed Mr. Tinberg a short list would be made and he would be contacted very soon. Interim City Manager Hooper explained the interview process to Mr. Pappas. Questions were asked by each councilperson. Interim City Manager Hooper informed Mr. Pappas a short list would be made and he would be contacted soon. There was a brief discussion regarding the way the interview with Mr. Pappas went. City Clerk Wadsworth contacted Thomas E. Painter from Tampa, Florida for his telephone interview. Interim city Manager Hooper explained the interview process to Mr. Painter. Questions were asked by each councilperson. Interim City Manager Hoper informed Mr. Painter a short list would be made and he would be contacted soon. '-' ...." There was a brief discussion regarding the way the interview with Mr. Painter went. City Clerk Wadsworth contacted Bernard Van Osdale from Niles, Michigan for his telephone interview. Interim City Manager Hooper explained the interview process to Mr. Van Osdale. Questions were asked by each councilperson. Interim city Manager Hooper informed Mr. Van Osdale a short list would be made and he would be contacted soon. Interim City Manager Hooper presented options to Council of what they could do. It was the consensus of Council to eliminate Gus H. Pappas. Councilman Roberts selected Mr. Grace, Mr. Tinberg, and Mr. Van Osdale. Mayor Allman selected Mr. Grace, Mr. Van Osdale and Mr. Painter. Councilwoman Lichter selected Mr. Grace, Mr. Tinberg, and Mr. Painter. Councilman Hammond selected Mr. Grace, Mr. Tinberg, and Mr. Painter. Interim city Manager Hooper suggested contacting Mr. Tinberg and see how much it would cost to get here and decide if that will be at the City's expense. There was a brief discussion regarding when to conduct the actual interviews before Council. Interim City Manager Hooper suggested bringing the gentlemen in, let them go through the City somewhat, have them meet with department heads and have fair exchange of information. He agreed to take them around and give them a tour. He suggested they meet the Council and then spend ten or fifteen minutes individually with council. He suggested having either breakfast, lunch, or dinner with the candidates in a social setting. Mayor Allman asked if the department heads could also be part of the interview process. Interim City Manager Hooper informed him if that is what Council wants. Mayor Allman stated they will be the ones to work with the new City Manager every day. Interim city Manager Hooper agreed to contact Mr. Grace, Mr. Tinberg and Mr. Painter and see what he can work out with a schedule. He suggested trying to interview all of them on the same day. There was a brief discussion regarding when Council will be available for interviews. Interim City Manager Hooper suggested getting a motion to interview Mr. Grace, Mr. Tinberg, and Mr. Painter and instruct staff to make the necessary arrangements to bring them in to meet with department heads and then they will be interviewed individually and as a collective group. Councilman Roberts asked if they find out with the face to face interviews one of them doesn't quite fit what they are looking for, could they look back and talk to one of the others that was eliminated. Councilman Hammond made a motion to interview Mr. Grace, Mr. Tinberg, and Mr. Painter and instruct staff to make the necessary arrangements to bring them in to meet with department heads and then they will be interviewed individually and as a collective group, second by Councilman Roberts. The motion CARRIED 4-0. ADJOURNMENT There being no further business to discuss, Councilman Roberts made a motion to adjourn, second by Councilman Hammond. The motion CARRIED 4-0.
