10-14-2010 CITY OF EDGEWATER RECREATION /CULTURAL SERVICES BOARD OCTOBER 14, 2010 6:30 PM EDGEWATER LEISURE SERVICES OFFICE 1108 S. RIDGEWOOD AVENUE MINUTES ROLL CALL /CALL TO ORDER Mrs. Sopko called the meeting to order. Members present were Joe Fishback, Walt Zakaluzny and Debra Sopko. Also present was Jack Corder, Director of Leisure Services. Board members Tom Tipton and Mike Visconti were absent. APPROVAL OF MINUTES Mr. Fishback made a Motion to approve the minutes of the July 8, 2010 meeting and Mr. Zakaluzny seconded. Motion CARRIED 3 -0. OLD BUSINESS Mr. Corder stated the Kayak Expo had to be cancelled, but we are hoping to re- schedule next year. He also said the bases for the amphitheater roof are up and the construction for the main components are being worked on at the shop and should be put up in a few weeks. NEW BUSINESS Board Member Expiration Mrs. Sopko's term has expired and she has expressed her desire to be re- appointed for another term. Mr. Zakaluzny made a motion to send a memo to Council to re- appoint Mrs. Sopko. Motion CARRIED unanimously. Zone 2 Beautification Award Nominations for the Zone 2 Beautification Award were reviewed and the winning residence was 701 Helmsman Lane. Department Update Mr. Zakaluzny informed the Board of the local recreation and sports going on now. He said the YMCA is signing up now for soccer and the Volusia Football League and Pop Warner Football are now in progress. Baseball and Girls Softball are also ongoing as well as the Senior Men's Softball who play at Whistle Stop Park. Mr. Corder stated the concert starring Uncle Kracker and Tracy Lawrence will be held on October 16, at the Edgewater Ranch. Also in December there will be a three day Jazz Fest there with one day being jazz, one day of reggae and one day with nationally know DJ, Biplo. On October 15 will be the Hob Nob with the Chamber of Commerce to meet the Southeast Volusia candidates at Hawks Park. On October 30 the CAPS /Police Dept. and volunteers from the High School will be doing a Haunted Forest, Fall Festival, and Trunk or Treat at the YMCA. December 11 is the date for the 20 annual Christmas Parade at 10 AM , which goes down Indian River Boulevard. Anyone interested in participating can stop by the office for a registration form.
