CALL TO ORDER:
Mr. McIntosh called to order the regular meeting of the Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy
Committee (CEDS) at 8:30 a.m., Tuesday, December 15, 2009, in the Council Chambers.

APPROVAL OF MINUTES:
MOTION by Mr. Cooper, SECOND by Mr. Proffitt to approve the Regular Meeting of December 1,
2009 minutes as presented:

DISCUSSION OF THE COMPETITIVE ECONOMIC STRENGTHS AND WEAKNESSES OF
THE CITY OF EDGEWATER FOR ATTRACTING, GROWING, AND SUSTAINING JOB -
GENERATING AND TAX REVENUE- PRODUCING BUSINESS AND INDUSTRY:
Weaknesses. Mr. Creveling recapped the weaknesses discuss at the previous meeting. The committee
added a lack of recognition from the SEV Chamber. There was discussion regarding the feasibility of
creating an volunteer ambassador program, consisting of local business leaders to help market the city.
`..- Target Industries. There was much discussion concerning the types of businesses and industries that
would be a good fit for the City. Included in the discussion were:

Green industries
Suppliers for existing businesses
Freight/trucking businesses
Aviation related businesses
Medical Industries /Services
Educational institutes
Entertainment Industries
Marina/river related/eco- tourist businesses
The committee requested a listing of existing manufactures in Edgewater as well as a listing of business
located in Massey Airpark.
PROJECT SCHEDULE: Review of Schedule, Milestones, and Next Steps.
The next meeting will be held on January 5 at 8:30. The discussion regarding target industries will be
continued. Also the committee will be looking at infrastructure requirements to bring in the target
industries.

Meeting Summary, 12/15/09
Summary of Discussion of Opportunities and Targets
Discussion by the Committee centered on the types of businesses, industries, and other economic
activities they thought were well suited to Edgewater and should be the recruitment targets of
community improvements and marketing efforts. Existing industries in the City were reviewed
as background for this discussion. Committee recommendations are summarized below and are
not necessarily listed in order of importance.
Marine Equipment. These include depth finders, trolling motors, and a variety of other
equipment, parts, and supplies manufacturers and services.
Green Industries. These include environmental remediation equipment and services and
various energy conservation technologies and products.
Suppliers to Existing Industries. Suppliers of equipment, parts, supplies, and services for
*No, existing local industries, particularly boat manufacturers.
Motor Freight Trucking. Freight carriers and terminal facilities are needed to serve
existing and future industry at competitive freight handling and distribution costs and
convenient services.
Aviation Industry: This includes the manufacture of components, equipment, parts, and
supplies and services with emphasis on general aviation.
Medical and Health Services. Community needs include assisted living, skilled nursing,
and medical care facilities.
Entertainment /Recreation/Leisure: This includes sporting and recreational goods
manufacturers, entertainment and recreation venues, eco- tourism and river - oriented
activities.
Discussion of these and other opportunities and targets will continue at the Committee meeting
on January 5, 2010, including infrastructure improvements needed in the City to attract and
sustain new opportunities and existing industries.
