10-26-1988 - Special ....., ..", CITY COUNCIL OF EDGEWATER SPECIAL MEETING OCTOBER 26, 1988 MINUTES Mayor Baugh called the meeting to order at 4:00 P.M. in the Community Center. He stated the purpose was for certifying absentee ballots of the primary election held October 25, 1988; declaring resulting of primary election (Resolution #88-R-54); and declaring candidates for the general election to be held November 8, 1988 (Resolution #88-R-55). ROLL CALL Mayor Earl Baugh Councilman Louis Rotundo Councilman Russell Prater Councilman Neil Asting Councilman David Mitchum Present Present Present Present Present City Attorney Jose' Alvarez Present City Manager William Powers Arrived later Acting City Clerk Susan Wadsworth Present Chief Lawrence Schumaker Present Acting City Clerk Wadsworth stated she had no questions on the ballots at this point. Mayor Baugh recessed the meeting at 4:03 P.M. for opening of the ballots. Mr. Powers arrived at the meeting during this recess, at 4:07 P.M. Mayor Baugh called the recessed meeting back to order at 4:21 P.M. He opened the canvass of election envelopes and read the totals by machine number. Acting City Clerk Wadsworth indicated those numbers agreed with hers. Acting City Clerk Wadsworth stated there was a total of 71 absentee ballots and one was not notarized. There was discussion about whether to accept that ballot. Mayor Baugh requested a motion if they wanted to accept it. Councilman Asting made that a motion. Councilman Rotundo seconded the motion. Motion CARRIED 5-0. Acting City Clerk Wadsworth read the ballots and after calculation, she read the totals for each candidate, as follows: Baugh - 6; Mitcnum - 48; Roberts - 8; Sheridan - 9; Hatfield - 33; Jones - 16; Muller - 8; Rotundo - 11; Bennington - 33; Martin - 24; Prater - 12; Denton - 17; Fish - 23; McClain - 11; and Wagner - 15. She then read the grand totals received for each candidate: Baugh - 372; Mitchum - 1,639; Roberts - 376; Sheridan - 206; Hatfield - 956; Jones - 974; Muller - 180; Rotundo - 397; Bennington - 1,414; Martin - 591; Prater - 499; Denton - 551; Fish - 817; McClain - 484; and Wagner - 609. Declare results of primary election held October 25, 1988 (Res. #88-R-54) - City Attorney Alvarez read this Resolution. RES. 88-R-54 - A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF EDGEWATER, FLORIDA, DECLARING THE RESULTS OF THE PRIMARY ELECTION HELD IN THE CITY OF EDGEWATER, FLORIDA, ON OCTOBER 25, 1988; REPEALING ALL RESOLUTIONS IN CONFLICT HEREWITH, AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE. He read the names and totals received. He read the section which declared the following candidates for the general election: Davi~ Mitchum for Mayor; Danny Hatfield and Kirk Jones for Council Zone 1; Gigi Bennington for Council Zone 2; and Thomas Fish and William B. Wagner, Jr. for Council Zone 4~ Acting City Clerk Wadsworth stated that Katherine Odham had determined that David Mitchum and Gigi Bennington would not appear on the November 8th ballot. City Attorney Alvarez changed th~ wording for those two candidates to indicate they were declared the winner at the primary election. Councilman Asting moved they adopt the resolution. Councilman Prater seconded the motion. Councilman Rotundo asked if the other candidates should be on this and Acting City Clerk Wadsworth replied this was the result of last night. Motion CARRIED 5-0. ~ ., Declare candidates for general election to be held November 8, 1988 (Res. #88-R-55) - City Attorney ~lvarez read this Resolution. RES. 88-R-55 - A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF EDGEWATER, FLORIDA, DECLARING THE CANDIDATES FOR ELECTION FOR MAYOR AND COUNCIL SEATS FOR ZONES 1,2,3,AND 4 IN THE CITY OF EDGEWATER, FLORIDA, FOR THE GENERAL ELECTION TO BE HELD NOVEMBER 8, 1988; REPEALING ALL RESOLUTIONS OR PARTS OF RESOLUTIONS IN CON- FLICT HEREWITH; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE. He read the names of those candidates: Mayor - David L. Mitchum; Council Zone 1 - Danny K. Hatfield and Kirk E. Jones; Council Zone 2~Gigi Bennington; Council Zone 3 - John Wilbur and Russell Gold; and Council Zone 4 - Thomas A. Fish and William B. Wagner, Jr. Councilman Asting moved they adopt the resolution. Councilman Rotundo seconded the motion. Motion CARRIED 5-0. Mayor Baugh requested a motion to adjourn. Councilman Prater so moved. Councilman Mitchum seconded the motion. Meeting was adjourned at 4:58 P.M.
