11-09-1988 - Special ~ ..... . CITY COUNCIL OF EDGEWATER SPECIAL MEETING NOVEMBER 9, 1988 MINUTES Mayor Baugh called the meeting to order at 4:00 P.M. in the Community Center. He stated the purpose was for transmitting returns and counting absentee ballots of the general election held November 8, 1988. ROLL CALL Mayor Earl Baugh Councilman Louis Rotundo Councilman Russell Prater Councilman Neil Asting Councilman David Mitchum Present Present Present Present Present City Attorney Jose' Alvarez Arrived later City Manager William Powers Arrived later Acting City Clerk Susan Wadsworth Present Chief Lawrence Schumaker Present Mayor Baugh opened the canvass of elections envelopes and read the totals by machine. Acting City Clerk Wadsworth indicated agreement with the numbers she had. Mr. Powers arrived during this time. Acting City Clerk Wadsworth stated there were 144 ballots issued and III carne back but one was voided out because the voter called and was able to vote at the polls, so 110 have to be counted. Mayor Baugh recessed the meeting at 4:15 P.M. while the ballots were being opened. He called the meeting back in session at 4:18 P.M. and explained there were 5 ballots that had questions. The ballots were circulated among the Council members. Councilman Prater moved they accept them. Councilman Asting seconded the motion. Motion CARRIED 5-0. Mayor Baugh again recessed the meeting as the opening of the envelopes continued. Mayor Baugh called the meeting back to order at 4:40 P.M. and Acting City Clerk Wadsworth read the ballots. At the conclusion, Mayor Baugh read the totals received: Hatfield - 68, Jones - 40, Gold - 67, Wilbur - 38, Fish - 72, Wagner - 35, Question yes - 56, and Question no - 52. There was no objection to these numbers. He then read the grand total received: Hatfield - 2,175, Jones - 1,860, Gold - 2,279, Wilbur - 1,579, Fish - 2,155, Wagner - 1,708, Question yes - 1,669, and Question no - 1,582. There was no objection to these totals. Res. 88-R-58 - City Attorney Alvarez read this resolution, inserting the names of the winners with the total votes received. RES.88-R-58 - A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF EDGEWATER, FLORIDA, DECLARING THE RESULTS OF THE GENERAL ELECTION HELD IN THE CITY OF EDGEWATER, FLORIDA, ON NOVEMBER 8, 1988; DECLARING THE WINNERS FOR THE OFFICE OF MAYOR AND COUNCIL SEATS FOR ZONES 1,2,3, AND 4; REPEALING ALL RESOLUTIONS IN CONFLICT HEREWITH, AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE. Names of the winners were: Mayor - David L. Mitchum; Council Zone 1 - Danny K. Hatfield; Council, Zone 2 - Gigi Bennington; Council, Zone 3-RussellA. Gold; Council, Zone 4 - Thomas A. Fish. Councilman Asting moved they adopt the resolution. Councilman Rotundo seconded the motion. Motion CARRIED 5-0. Res. 88-R-59 - City Attorney Alvarez read this resolution. RES. 88-R-59 - A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF EDGEWATER, FLORIDA, DECLARING THE RESULTS OF THE GENERAL ELECTION HELD NOVEMBER 8, 1988, REGARDING THE QUESTION OF WHETHER THE CITY CHARTER SHALL BE AMENDED TO PROVIDE FOR VOTER PERFORMANCE APPROVAL FOR THE CITY MANAGER TO BE RESCINDED; REPEALING ALL RESO- LUTIONS IN CONFLICT HEREWITH, AND PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. He stated the totals of 1,669 yes votes for adoption and 1,582 no votes against adoption. Councilman Prater moved they adopt resolution 88-R-59. Councilman Rotundo seconded the motion. Motion CARRIED 5-0. Mayor Baugh requested a motion to adjourn. Councilman Asting so moved. Councilman Prater seconded the motion. Meeting was adjourned a :17 P.M.
