04-14-2011 CITY OF EDGEWATER RECREATION /CULTURAL SERVICES BOARD APRIL 14, 2011 6:30 PM EDGEWATER LEISURE SERVICES OFFICE /1108 S. RIDGEWOOD MINUTES ROLL CALL /CALL TO ORDER Mr. Tipton called the meeting to order. Members present were, Walt Zakaluzny, Debra Sopko and Tom Tipton. Also present was Jack Corder, Director of Leisure Services. Board members absent were Mike Visconti and Joe Fishback. APPROVAL OF MINUTES Mrs. Sopko made a Motion to approve the minutes of the October 14, 2010 meeting and Mr. Zalaluzny seconded. Motion CARRIED 3 -0. OLD BUSINESS Mr. Corder stated the amphitheater roof is finally completed. The roof is kept rolled up when not in use and is relatively easy to operate. It has been used twice already, once for the "Jammin In The Park' concert last week, and the week prior for the Little League opening day. With a tight budget right now, he said he is looking for joint ventures to do more events in the future. NEW BUSINESS Department Update Mr. Corder said they are looking to add to the area of the amphitheater in Hawks Park, and turn the old building on the property into restrooms and a concession and maybe a small office. He said we will be adding solar lighting around the paths in Hawks Park that lead to the YMCA. He also stated he was looking into grants to provide solar energy for lighting around the YMCA building, as it is an emergency shelter for the public. The annual Easter Egg Hunt, sponsored by the Rotary Club will be Saturday, April 16 at Rotary Park, with the festivities beginning at 9 a.m. It was noted that the YMCA has 320 children enrolled in the soccer program this year, and Mr. Zakaluzny stated the Little League is going well and over 400 children are participating. Zone 1 Beautification Award Nominations for the Zone 1 Beautification Award were reviewed and the winning residence was 1824 Pine Tree Drive. MISCELLANEOUS Mr. Zakaluzny said he would like to see some plants added to the landscaping out by 1 -95 at the entrance to the City, something inexpensive, but colorful. Mr. Corder said he would look into it. Mr. Tipton asked how the Farmer's Market was going and Mr. Corder said we have about 11 vendors right now and it's going really well. ADJOURNMENT There being no further business, Mr. Zakaluzny made a motion to adjourn, seconded by Mrs. Sopko. Motion CARRIED 3 -0. Minutes submitted by Barb Kowall
