06-15-2011 CITY OF EDGEWATER ANIMAL CONTROL BOARD MEETING JUNE 15, 2011 7: PM LEISURE SERVICES OFFICE, 1108 S. RIDGEWOOD AVE. MINUTES ROLL CALL /CALL TO ORDER Chairwoman Donna Wagner called the June 15, 2011 meeting to order. Members present were Jaimie Young, Karen Mason, Dr. Vanis, Mary Wenderoth and Donna Wagner. Also present was Jack Corder, Director of Leisure Services and Johnnie Dail, Animal Control Officer. APPROVAL OF MINUTES Jaimie Young made a MOTION to approve the minutes of the January 19, 2011 meeting and Mary Wenderoth seconded . MOTION carried 5 -0. NEW BUSINESS Term Expiration of Jaimie Young Jaimie Young's term expired and she signed a memo expressing her desire to be re- appointed to the Animal Control Board for another term, to which the entire Board agreed. Review and Discussion of County Spay /Neuter Ordinance The Board was given a copy of a revision of the Chapter 5 of the Code of Ordinances to include the County's spay /neuter ordinance. Mr. Dail stated that it is essentially a copy from the County to the City and he would personally like to see the age requirement for spay /neuter be 4 months for cats and 6 months for dogs, rather than the 4 month across the board age for both. Dr. Vanis said animals don't come in to heat until 6 months of age and historically, animal shelters and veterinarians wait until 6 months. The Board discussed this at length and Chairwoman Wagner made a MOTION to change any age requirement of the spay /neuter to 6 months across the board, rather than 4 months. Karen Mason seconded the MOTION and it carried 5 -0. Chairwoman Wagner asked if the board had any other changes they would like to see and there were none. OLD BUSINESS None. June 15, 2011 Minutes Animal Control Board MISCELLANEOUS Mr. Dail stated there will be a Dangerous Dog hearing in the next few weeks and they will be getting their paperwork for that soon. Chairwoman Wagner asked if the city has been keeping track and checking on the dangerous dogs from past hearings. Mr. Dail stated they have and there is really only one left and the others have either expired or moved from the area. ADJOURNMENT There being no further business, Dr. Vanis made a MOTION to adjourn, seconded by Karen Mason. MOTION carried 5 -0.
