Motion CARRIED 5-0. OLD BUSINESS Mr. Corder stated the building located behind the office is in the final planning stages to add restrooms, concession stand and a small office. Sixteen additional feet will be added to the building and the Animal Control Officers will be moving into this location in October. The restrooms and concession can be utilized for events held at the amphitheater. Also, there will be lighting added to the walkways there. Mr. Tipton asked what the time line was for this project and Mr. Corder said he was hoping to have it finished in October some time. NEW BUSINESS Department Update Mr. Corder said the city is renegotiating the contract with the YMCA. He said we will be taking over the maintenance of the building and over five years, phasing out the money they are now getting for the scholarship program. He noted his department is in mowing mode right now and have also been doing sidewalk repairs along Roberts Rd. Budget workshops are coming up and the city is expecting a 15% hit due to the property values loss. Mr. Corder reported that the state had bought the old railroad right of ways and it is being converted into Rails to Trails. It will be a 12 foot wide walking/biking/horse riding trail that will start here on Dale St. and extend to Cow Creek and Osteen and eventually to Deltona, DeBary, Orange City and Titusville. New Smyrna has recently gotten a low bid on their highways maintenance, and Mr. Corder said he is looking to see if Edgewater can get that to relieve the manpower issues for us and relieve some of the mowing man-hours. Mr. Zakaluzny stated he brought up the possibility of adding some plants to the I-95 entrance to the city at the last meeting and is happy to report that this has been done and looks really great. July 14, 2011 Minutes Recreation/Cultural Services Bd. Zone 2 Beautification Award Nominations for the Zone 2 Beautification Award were reviewed and the winning residence was 3036 Unity Tree Drive. Mr. Visconti and Mr. Zakaluzny agreed to make the presentation to the winner. The next award will be given in October to a business or resident in Zone 1, (north of Indian River Blvd.) MISCELLANEOUS Mr. Tipton asked how the Farmer’s Market was going and Mr. Corder said it was a little slow right now with the summer heat, and expected it to pick up again in the fall when the weather is cooler and the snow birds are back in town. Mr. Visconti asked what could be done to beautify the corners at U.S. 1 and Park Ave. He noted that the Seven-Eleven has done a great job on their side and gave suggestions on how we could get the other businesses to participate. Mr. Corder stated that this area has already been targeted to improve and was discussed at the last CRA meeting.
