I am confident our hard work will certainly enrich the lives of the young people we are able to help with the gift of a college scholarship. In preparation of our next meeting, I am asking that each of us bring an idea to help market our concept. I am sure we would all agree we need to get the word out. I believe it would be helpful to come to the next meeting with some well thought out ideas. Properly marketing the concept is the key to its success and we need to focus our efforts on marketing. I have taken the initiative to start a dedicated website "myedgewaterscholarship.com" and would like to get input from the committee as to how it is developed. If you are website savvy or have any great ideas for the site, please bring them as well. I look forward to seeing you all at the next meeting. Best Regards, Justin Kennedy Chairman- Edgewater Scholarship Committee FUTURES /Take Stock in Children was established in 1995 and provides a unique opportunity for low- income, at —risk students to escape the cycle of poverty through education. We offer our students college tuition scholarships, caring volunteer mentors and hope for a better life. Our comprehensive services start in middle school, continue through high school and include their transition into college. Students selected into our program each year must maintain a 3.0 cumulative GPA throughout high school, attend required events such as the Volusia County Schools College Expo, meet with a mentor at school for 30 minutes weekly, and remain drug and crime free. When these requirements are successfully met and upon high school graduation, each student receives either a 2 year community college or a 2 +2 tuition scholarship. This year we are purchasing 2 year only scholarships. *KEY TO THE PROGRAM IS THAT FOR EVERY DOLLAR RAISED THE STATE MATCHES US DOLLAR FOR DOLLAR* We would love for Edgewater to sponsor a Volusia County Student. This is a great way to show your community involvement and change the life of a student. Mentoring is a key component of the TSIC Program. Mentors are recruited from all over the community, from area schools, businesses, civic organizations, and educational institutions. Our mentors are also Volusia County Schools mentors who are trained and background cleared before they are matched with a student at the high school of their choice. Meeting a least twice /month at a high school, mentors give at least a one year commitment and often a four year commitment, growing with their student and fostering an even closer relationship. Our mentors serve as a role model to the student and as a liaison between the student, the school and the TSIC program. All have full access to their student's academic progress as well as support from TSIC's staff. Futures /TSIC /s class of 2015 students have been selected and we are currently in need of mentors for various schools in the County. If anyone is interested in additional information about the program, please have them contact me at 386 - 255 -6475 x. 50724 or they can get information on our website at www.futuresvolusia.org Click on Take Stock icon on right hand side. Attached are applications for our program as well for anyone interested in becoming a mentor or making a contribution.
